And then book a connecting RAR - AIT (Aitutaki), also 'the day before'. Confuses TripIt.

Most years there is some story of someone seeing in NYE in Sydney, boarding a flight and then doing it all again. Usually heading to the US. Although if being done by ‘celebs’ I guess they’re taking their own, as no Aus-US flights listed in the linked article.

Yep, like in 2012 when a few celebs arrived in a private 747, partied in Sydney then met it at Canberra for the flight to vegas

If anyone wanted to do this, I think the Air New Zealand flight from AKL to RAR would be a prime candidate.

The rest of them involve seeing in the first new year at the departure gate and the second new year in the customs queue upon arrival. AKL-RAR you could actually celebrate NYE in each place.

There was a chartered Concorde flight that left LHR just after midnight in 2000 and arrived in JFK in 1999 with enough time to get to the celebrations.
