I was told that at certain times of the year and on certain days, maybe Mon Wed Fri, there are direct flights from Japan, presumably Narita to Tihuana Mexico.
I have looked up the flights and rather than it being cheaper than Sydney Lax, Lax Mexico, it was very much more expensive.Surely this can not be.
I keep subscribing to the Aeromexico newletter but never get one, which they may never send out, and speaking to them directly one time did not get any helpful info.
I know it's an off chance, but presumably members here are an affluent travelling group, and someone may have some knowledge of this, who knows.
Anyone heard of the direct flights Japan to Mexico?

Why do you think a direct flight would be the cheapest option available?

Welcome to AFF lighttning333!

I don't have experience with the particular route you mention but in my experiences the indirect flights are generally cheaper than the direct options. For many years it was cheaper to fly SYD-PER-SIN over the direct SYD-SIN flight. That's still the case on a number of routes I regularly book.

well, I had thought Tokyo to Tijuana sounded shorter, but I don't think it is so frequent, and that has a lot to do with cheaper, still, it seems really expensive. I was getting$2000 one way

I am thinking when it is a popular flight they put on many flights and can afford to drop the prices, but alternately, when it is popular, they can put the prices up and make a better profit, because that flight is popular. What's your take on that?

Distance flown doesn’t always reflect price, many other factors involved

Plenty of things but not limited to Demand, frequency, taxes, govt subsidies etc.

There are many things that impact the price of an airfare. Pricing is complex and nowhere near as simple or straight forward as many people think.
Here is a brief rundown...

It appears that the only non stop NRT-Mexico flights go to Mexico City. AM57/AM58 and NH180/NH179. They appear to be daily.
AreoMexico used to fly 3 weekly between Narita and Tijuana, but that route ended in 2014.

If you want to go to Tijuana, you have the option of the JAL flight to San Diego.

Yes that is how it was until 2014, thanks for clearing that up, now it's to Mexico City, which seem outlandish prices.I will keep watching

Note that it was really a MEX-NRT schedule. The stop in TIJ was really just due to the hot and high conditions at MEX and the aircraft cant take off from MEX with sufficient payload/fuel to reach NRT hence the stop in TIJ.

The newer aircraft can now do MEX-NRT direct I believe.

They do MEX-MTY-ICN-MEX now.

I guess direct was correct (not nonstop!) in airline language.

Thanks for the correction.

At one stage was there not a good connection via YVR to MEX.

Is the OP’s intended destination TIJ or MEX?
