Service is excruciatingly slow....

The flight is delayed for an hour due to an electrical fault, and then once we board, it is another 2 hours before supper arrives - a simple toasted chicken schnitzel and Swiss cheese toasted focaccia which incidentally has that 'frozen' taste like it has been heated up from the freezer.

Exhausted by 1am , I hope I sleep reasonably peacefully on the *almost* fully-flat Business Class bed.

But my hope doesn't turn out to be a reality...

In the seat next to me 3 kids were up all night - switching the lights on and off, and alternately screaming and crying on an ongoing basis. The parents seemed to be oblivious and the crew lightly danced around the issue.

The Customer Service Manager (I can't remember his name) kindly emailed the customer service team back in Australia during the flight, and again apologised for the terrible experience.

Last week I flew Business Class on SQ from KIX - SIN for only 38,000 points - no paid fare difference required. It was a far superior experience, with full dining options, lie-flat beds, and phenomenal guest service.

The dining experience on my flight was mediocre in comparison. Supper as mentioned - a simple toasted chicken schnitzel and Swiss cheese toasted focaccia which had that 'frozen' taste like it has been heated up from the freezer. Breakfast was a haphazard choice of a cranberry muffin, fruit salad, or ham and cheese croissant. I was hungry and asked for all 3 which was returned with a surprised look from the attendant. He seemed to have this 'attitude' chip on his shoulders and treated me as if it was a privilege to be able to fly on his aircraft.

Having spent an additional 50,000 points on top of my paid fare for this flight, I am extremely disappointed with the experience.

So in summary, cash fare plus 50K points for this business class one way flight? A big mistake. Have learnt my lesson and will never use points for an upgrade with Qantas again. Nor will I buy a J ticket with QF again.

You win some, you lose some. I flew J on SQ from SIN-MEL a couple of years ago. Service was patchy at best, bed uncomfortable, and child in the row in front kept making squealing noises the whole way.

Delay due to aircraft fault - It happens on all airlines
Kids on board behaving badly - It happens on all airlines
Food taking ages after departure - QF seem really really bad at this ex SIN - Needs to be fixed
coughpy breakfast - QF do this well on the Asia flights

Bascially your issues are with food service, it's something QF could so easily fix as well which makes it sad

Let's hope with the A330 refurbishments that they upgrade the food as well

To be honest, that's exactly how I felt on my first QF J flight ex-SIN after being very acquainted with CX long-haul J - even though the QF flight was an op-up, and it was a Skybed Mk2.

SIN-BNE-SYD on QF52+QF8 in J wasn't much better last night although I didn't have to deal with any kids.

Like opusman said

I was on the same flight last night. Had the pan fried grouper for supper which I thought was pretty good. Person next to me had the "frozen" toasted chicken schnitzel. Don't understand why would someone eat a toasted sandwich in J? Being a night flight, most passengers have dinner at the Singapore Qantas Lounge prior to boarding. I opted for a nice Sambal Squid with coconut rice

Kids can be a problem on any flight in any cabin unfortunately.. luck of the draw.

I agree that for some reason QF service can be slow - I believe part of this is they can't start the galley ovens until at cruise, so there is some time to heat up the meals.
My standard practice on these overnight flights from Asia is to eat in the lounge, have a drink on board then sleep.

Breakfast is optional - I'm flying J to get the sleep, not eat the food on the overnight legs.

I'm a sucker for chicken Shnitzel sambos at anytime of the day it night :).
The squid in the lounge was delicious.
Ion the very rare occasion I fly J I want the whole experience that is sold to me.
Just didn't experience it at all.

Indeed - but I guess we all fly different classes for different reasons. Mine was for the J-class experience which I had hoped would have included a lovely dinner and solid sleep. I know realise I was wrong.

On the point of kids, I again incorrectly thought airlines would have had ways of dealing with kids in J class. I'm sure it is nothing new.
Again, I was wrong and have learnt my lesson

japansuki,

While I suspect most doing the QF Asia overnight legs will sleep,
I equally realise there will be people wanting to experience the full service, or connecting from say Europe where their bodyclocks may be out.

In this case I do believe that QF should still be offering a proper Business Class service on-board
(and agree that a foccacia sandwich is not it)..

I do sort of agree with the cafe-breakfast meal however, particularly for the 6-7am arrivals where I would prefer not to have the whole plane woken at 4am for what is frankly an average breakfast. I far prefer to just have a coffee.. get home (or hotel), shower, have a decent breakfast and then get on with my day.

Yet SQ can provide a full breaky meal or dinner 60 mins out from landing...

Yes I do agree with what you are saying.
And to be honest had this been a comp upgrade my post would not have been created.
But as I forked out 50,000 points on top of my paid fare, I am disappointed.

japansuki I think QF has ascertained that the most frequent, most commercially valuable and the overall majority of travellers in Business on these short legs from SE Asia don't desire a three course meal post 10PM and at midnight Sydney time. The kids are certainly annoying but as others have said this can occur on any airline and in any class without much recourse to do anything about it. Breakfast wise as well, I do not think that the majority of people want to (as was said earlier) be woken up at 4AM or 5AM to have a heavy meal. I most certainly wouldn't want to stuff my face at dinner and then stuff it again a few hours later with no exercise or meaningful movement in the mean time.

Is the Q-Eat option available ex SIN?

Ex SYD NRT bound, I selected 'max rest' and fell asleep 15 min after take-off, waking up with a proper breakfast two hours from NRT.

Coming back, I'd be doing the same thing - after paying a visit to the JAL F lounge.

Those who desire a full supper service (presumably after missing the lounge options for some reasons) should have the option of doing so, but I'd suggest most would take advantage of the lounge instead of 'eating' into your rest time.

The commercial cost of making ready a full supper for every J pax while not many is taking it up is not a minor issue.

Q-Eat is a rational way to accommodate the wishes of different pax IMO.

Q-eat would not work in the OPs case generally, as its request hours are outside those where a SG upgrade may come through in most cases.

They should therefore adjust the amount of points required for their flight upgrades accordingly.
