Flight diverted over beer theft

I assume the diversion was over a blocked toilet or possibly an overly rowdy pax. I would be pretty fuming if I was naotehr pax and was delayed simply to get this person into custody (I assume there are police officers at the original destination?)

It seems ridiculous to divert the aeroplane for this matter. If I was onboard I would pay the $5 for a beer that the person took if the alternative was a diversion especially since the flight distance of the scheduled journey was 716 miles

That is sooo funny, what will they divert a plane for next??....

Ah, Kelowna, British Columbia...I so want to go back there (skiing at Big White)

When I read the title, I thought that this had to be 'only in AUS'.

Clearly I was wrong!

This report suggests the beer theft was not the primary reason for diversion-
Incident: Jazz CRJ2 near Kelowna on Oct 13th 2009, unruly passenger
"An Air Canada Jazz Canadair CRJ-200, flight QK-8460 from Vancouver,BC to Fort McMurray,AB (Canada), was enroute at FL310 north of Kelowna,BC when a group of three intoxicated passengers became unruly prompting the crew to divert to Kelowna.
