Hi,

I am just after some info on the following:

If I was to travel to London via Australia with Singapore Airlines, then get onto a connecting flight to Manchester with British Airways, would the the person at checkin be able to check my bags all the way thru to Manchester, even though I will be getting onto a different carrier ? I know Singapore has a flight to Manchester, I just want to ride the a380 which goes to London, and by checking bags all the way, I hope to avoid re-checking my bags as you would in the US. Also, if they do/dont, eitherway, how much time should I allow between the flights, taking into consideration immigration/security etc... I would be arriving mid week.

Cheers

If SQ has an interlining agreement with BA, then there should be no problems routing your bags to MAN. Otherwise you will need to pick up your bags and re-check. Best way to confirm this is to call SQ about your situation.

In any case, I believe you will need to clear UK customs/immigration in order to get to your flight to MAN. In which case, I'd build in a transfer time of at least 2.5 hours. I'm not sure what the "rule" says but that's my hunch; if you can't throughcheck, I'd be tempted to bump the time up to about 3.5 hours.

(For our esteemed AFFers here that think I'm being a bit too cautious/alarmist, well, here speaketh the voice of inexperience.....)

I am guessing the won't as you would probably pass through immigration at LHR so you would need to check your bags past customs. But I have never done it, so don't quote me 100% on that. just my reading of it!

If the 2 flights are part of a single reservation then they should check the bags through to MAnchester; if they are separate bookings, then they can but are not obligated to do so.

If you make a single booking with SQ, then they will ensure that the minimum connecting time is met and there is nothing to worry about

There is no issue with the bags being checked through to Manchester since customs formalities will be performed there if the bags are checked through

If the bags are checked through to Man, just follow the signs to flight connections and go directly to the terminal where the onward flight is going from. I would have thought that SQ would have no issues selling you a through ticket connecting on BMI up to Manchester since they are both part of Star Alliance.

Note: the bags will come off at a different conveyer belt at Manchester than for those bags which have only travelled up from London
