Having just completed a trip PER-HKG-LHR-MAD I thought I would add a few comments on the ticketing. Mrs WF is/was flying PER-HKG-LHR-MAD-LHR-USA-LHR-HKG-PER - so a through W cabin ticket/fare was of special interest.

I would suggest the mythical OPup on BA has disappeared. Even in LHR T5 there are numerous desks with the "today's upgrade" sign where they will (if a seat is open) happily take your money and move you "up" a cabin. In Y+ LHR-HKG - 3 people were moved up to J after the doors closed but before take-off. At least I had an empty seat next to me

The other comment relates to the difference in the fares on QF and BA HKG-Europe ticketed in the W cabin. It was interesting that at 42 days the discounted fares in the BA W cabin totally disappeared. Which prompted a look at what QF was offering. As they still had T class availability, Mrs WF had the opportunity to fly in the better Y+ seat. The surprise was that while BA offers the inter_Europe seat in B class, QF ups the fare class to D/R - the discounted biz seat classes. So if you are looking for SCs to credit to QF (or BA) the QF ticket is the better deal. Also a better deal for an AA Gold member as BA does not grant status bonus miles to AA Gold members - but QF does.

Happy wandering
