Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:


If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

No commercial airline flies to BBX and BNB airport in Congo is not served by EK or QF.

The interesting thing is QF9 MEL-LHR lists F8 but QF MEL-DXB lists only F7, is QF setting up a potential oversell, or are they keeping an empty seat to sell more MEL-LHR pax?
 
Hi, could anyone be so kind as to look into the loadings for QF93 MEL - LAX on 14th September.

And QF94 LAX - MEL on 3rd October. (realise this is quite far out, but an idea would be nice)

Knowing my chances are slim , but trying to contain the energy, so to speak.

An update on my flights, to my surprise, upgraded at the gate from Y to Y+ on both legs. Not quite J, but better than a poke in the eye. 2 for 2 for a lowly bronze (now silver after today, Gold by November), must be some kind of record?

EF is showing F3 A0 J0 C0 D0 I0 W5 R3 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9, with 10 days to go. I am a WP. More so interested in anyone's personal experience in a situation with similar loadings. I would not know where to start in guessing how many people in J would apply for an upgrade on this flight, but is looking very full in J.
Even if upgrade does not come through, I have 11E selected in Emerald City, so wont be too bad.

IME, with loading a that heavy in J it is possible that some top tier FFers will get an OpUp, as if they aren't selling J then they have probably oversold already. F is rarely oversold as you don't really want to upset your F pax.

This all changes the day before the flight of course where they get a better idea of loadings.

I wouldn't hold my breath but you might get lucky.
 
Well to my surprise, I checked my booking and have been upgraded to F, a full 7 days before the flight, and I am only a WP!. Still showing as F3 A2 J4, so suspect they have oversold J. I am now allocated seat 5a (which interestingly was already occupied a few days ago - the seat map has not changed since last week), so not sure how long ago the upgrade was processed. No points deducted as yet (I had put in an upgrade request when I first booked). Seat 13F also now free in Emerald City, so wonder if that was also an upgrade.
For me that maintains my 100% upgrade record, and interestingly, still means that I have never flown J in a Qantas A380, only paid F and J ->F upgrade in about 25 sectors.

I'd say as a WP it looks good considering how full the Y cabin is and that it's still J9. I got 2 Y to J upgrades on QF6 recently with worst loadings (J6).
