It is my understanding that there is no manifest given to crew on Jetstar domestic flights - only on international. Should this be the case there would have been no manifest for this Maroochydore/Melbourne flight. The crew only get a list of "specials" eg SSR codes such as wheelchairs (WCHR) etc.
If a guy takes a shine to a girl who looks 18 or older, do they actually ask the girl "how old are you" before engaging in polite chit chat? You can't expect them to ask for ID for heavens sake. I would think they assume if she's under age ie less than 16 that she would speak up and tell him so before it can go any further.
As for the mothers comment re her daughter "only goes by her first name on her website". This comment in itself displays the mother's lack of basic understanding on the fundamentals of the internet. If she is referring to her daughters account on Facebook being under her first name only, how would the flight attendant seeing her full name on a boarding pass help him track her down on FB?
Has she got some weird and wonderful first name whereby only a handful of girls worldwide share? When I type in my first name only the Facebook search returns 2,900 results.
So is the mother wrong and her daughter in fact goes by her full name on Facebook? If so, did the flight attendant look her up after seeing her name on the boarding pass or did the girl give him her email address thus enabling him to search for her that way?
Would this story have hit the headlines if they couple had crossed paths at a suburban cafe or shopping centre?
I don't believe it's a breach of privacy for crew to access a passenger manifest to know what passenger is sitting in what seat. In some cases it is useful in a medical emergency if the passenger becomes unconscious or if someone becomes a violent or abusive drunk mid-air.
There are quite a few clarifications needed here namely:
* Is it a breach of an individual's privacy if a flight attendant looks a passenger up on a public domain such as Facebook.
* If you are buying groceries at Woollies and a checkout chick gets your name from your ATM card would she be breaching the privacy act by looking you up on Facebook? What about Dr, Dentist or Accountant - does that then become a breach of patient/client confidentiality?
As is always the case with these reports, there is the Mother's version, the Daughter's version and the Flight Attendant's version.
Having been a teenager myself once there is also the daughters version of what really happened and the version of what I hoped my mother believed had happened!
As for the flight attendant being stood down, is this on full pay pending the result of the investigation or is he simply a sacrificial lamb so that the matter can be swept under the carpet and forgotten about at its earliest convenience?
