Only marginally a 'travel' question I know ...

Decided to open a Flickr account to share some travel pics with friends o/s who are contemplating going to some of the same places, but I want to keep the pics 'private'.

According to Wikipedia (hmmm...) 'family and friends' should be able to view pics without opening an account, but now I go to send an 'invitation' it appears that the only way in is to open an account.

Are we doing something wrong? Should F&F be able to view 'private' pics without an account?

Thanks .. but wait! I was just about to acknowledge what you said as being correct, (as others have told me that in the meantime), but I went to quote the Wikipedia article that said non members CAN view, and rubbish it.

But there is a way, as far as I can tell, via 'guest passes' A bit convoluted but does the job I want it to.

You set the 'privacy' settings to 'family' or 'friends' but they need an account. Otherwise just post them up and we can all check out your vacation.

Matt

I've sent the guest pass link to some friends back home, (it covers a whole private, 'family & friends' accessible Album) so will wait till they report what they can actually see.

Many of these are from my recent Eastern European trip, with a seemingly never ending Trip Report here :) . The Flickr album just contains more images (a LOT more...) , at full resolution (all 5 to 6 MB per image of them  )
