First time on SQ J and I'm a little bit excited

So for Marge go 11F yourself in 11D and Lisa in 11A (it's a windowless seat but has no seat infront so it has a massive bench under the TV.) MiniDanger aged 5 loves 11A as dad or mum can sit on the bench and play games when needed.

Very interesting. My TA (a new one, so I don't yet know how reliable she is) told me that her clients shy away from the row 11 seats as it is narrow up in the front and there is no window. As Seatguru confirmed this I went with hers (and Seatguru's) recommendation of 17.

Now I have to weigh up how important a window is to me... Talk about first world problems, heh? :)

Ok so it is alittle narrower up there but really the seat is so dam wide you are not going to notice it. It really depends if Lisa is going to be awake or not and require entertainment. My thoughts ,if you fly at night it matters not about the window, if you fly in the day you get the reflection on the flat screen so you pull the shutter down anyway!
I personally like to sit beside Mrs Danger for a bit of a chat and to sometimes share dinner and have Mini Danger just across the aisle so I can cast my eye over what she is up to and to make sure nothing inappropriate is being viewed on the flat screen hence my 3 seats in the same row preference.
Whatever choice you make to is a great J experience.
I did not know about the Bolly choice for the bubbles I have only ever had the Charles H. I must explore that in April on my next venture
Cheers Danger UXB

SYD-SIN is a daytime flight but SIN-SYD is an overnight one. So I might try both options - 17A, 18D/F on the outbound sector and 11A, 11D/F on the return?

Yes that's usually exactly what I do too.

Thanks again for all the help! :)

Indeed SQ swapped from CH to Bolly 2nd half 2010 IIRC.

Personally much prefer CH to Bolly - but each and very trip I give my taste buds more than sufficient opportunity to acquire acceptable appreciation of same.

Homer as others have mentioned you will love the experience - indeed I am off to PEK on Wed on possibly my 50th SQ J experience - or is it 100th - you can never / will never tire of the experience.

Glamourous? Maybe not. Totally enjoyable? ABSOLUTELY.

Earlier in the thread you talked about joining KF and requesting an upgrade and reading through I'm not sure if you ended up with any F sectors.

If you have a ticket class that is eligible for miles upgrade try and do it on one of the sectors SIN-DPS if they have F available. This would give you access to The Private Room which would be another aspect of your journey.

The Private Room sounds great but the feedback was that SQ doesn't hand out upgrades to F very often, even to their high status pax. So as a no-status pax I decided that I'd rather not transfer points when I have little chance of an upgrade.

In my experience SQ will indeed only upgrade J to F if J totally full - to the very last seat.

Happened to me once SIN-MEL on 747 - I was Elite Gold at time on J Saver Award - a friend on fully paid J was sitting with me - I got upgraded - he didn't - was he ever pissed off.

That is true for operational (or free) upgrades. However, they do offer confirmable upgrades using points that are much easier to come by - as long as not on the A380 to suites. But it is very expensive option (eg SYD-SIN is 80,000 pts -15% if booked online, for the aircraft type they operate between SIN-SYD).

As for the mention by another poster for accessing Private Room by upgrading the SIN-DPS sector, this will not be an option for points upgrades as SQ don't operate a first cabin on this route.

There seems to be a little confusion in this thread between an airport upgrade for operational reasons and a points upgrade made on-line or with the call centre as early as possible. An operational upgrade will only happen if the flight is overbooked in which case a senior KF or PPS member travelling alone would be most likely get the upgrade and, in any case, I have never seen it happen on a 380. Also on the 380 a points upgrade is not available from J to R at this time. With no F SIN-DPS and vv, the options for an upgrade on this journey are, for all intents and purposes nil.

Have fun in J, Homer.

It's good to do BTC just in case the daily menu doesn't appeal (though I've BTC'd so many times that I've reverted to the daily menu recently).
There is usually a choice of 3-4 mains on the daily menu, and one will be Matt Moran designed.

If you're feeling like a nap, and there's an empty seat nearby or next to you, ask for that to be made into the bed so you can segue between seat and bed.
The FA will gladly do that for you.

You may not get Bollinger on the flight, some flights are now serving Henriot Brut Souverain in J.

In Changi don't forget you can go to the SKL in either T3 or T2. The food is sometimes slightly different in each, T2 usually has something different.

Again, enjoy. I always love SQ at the front.

I've just found out a friend of mine, plus his 4 nearest and dearest buddies, are flying out to Singapore on Air Asia about 20 minutes before us. Are we able to guest a few of them into the SQ lounge? Is it one guest per J pax or two?

Sorry about this....J pax are not entitled to a guest.

Doh! Maybe I can use the DJ Plat access to guest just my friend in? The DJ lounge access page refers to "you and a guest" but it also says "on presentation of a boarding pass for same day travel on Singapore Airlines" which my friend won't have. It's just not clear whether we both have to have an SQ boarding pass or whether mine will suffice? Lounge Access with Velocity Membership | Velocity Frequent Flyer

(I know, this is the wrong forum for this particular tangent. I'll probably just call DJ.)

I must be the odd one out.

I travelled SYD-SIN recently on the SQ A380 in upper deck business class and I could not for the life of me understand all the hype about business class. Yes the seat was wide enough but felt like sitting on a bench seat. I could not wait for the flight to end.

Had a slightly better experience coming back BKK-SYD on a TG A380 but perhaps I do not know how to appreciate premium cabins and simply belong back in economy.

Maybe you have provided your own answer here!

Please let us know the answer. My understanding is that you will both need SQ J boarding passes.

That must have been some flight!

Indeed the change took place as of Jan 1 so I was informed by cabin staff on MEL-SIN yesterday - they told me only flts ex Oz affected - but lo and behold SIN-PEK also served Henriot.

Twas quite acceptable IMHO - certainly drank more than my share.

Ditto what others have mentioned re loung access - J pax cannot guest - Gold Elite KF members can guest 1. NO SQ boarding pass NO access.
