First time in SQ J!

Awesome, thanks! A photo's worth a thousand words! Looks pretty good, I suspect I will be trying that along with a few of the coughtails (is it SQ that has the crazy expensive cognac or is that Emirates?)...

Also, for the SQ experts, is there a chance of suites opening up on the flight? I've been looking and while I can see SQ218 has space now, the connecting flight doesn't even come up and I don't want to screw up my booking this close in. Also, any idea how long Amex MR points take to get to SQ, as it might be a moot point anyway...

Thanks
Yeah, coughtails were great, I had so much fun sampling and love how SQ FA's never judge and are even generous in servings (have experienced on some flights including a J on QF where husband ordered two drinks to have a FA rudely tell him "haven't you already ordered enough?!". )
Another tip is to try and get the bulkhead seats to avoid the little side tunnel for your feet- I had the bulkhead and slept well. I personally didn't think the mattress was uncomfortable but have seen a few people say so. However I Love SQ J regardless of anything like that as their service really is exceptional and for me that's what makes or breaks my enjoyment.
Have fun!

.... love how SQ FA's never judge .....

I think we had one of the earlier flights and I said to hubby, "You know what? Im going to try champagne" and the FA was, "You must madam, you have to have one and I can get you something else if you dont like it".

i've been trying to encourage my parents to get into the spirit of their flight on SQ over to the UK in April.

My dad can't quite grasp it's FREE AND UNLIMITED.

Hopefully I'm chipping away at their feeling of i can't ask for it or I don't want to annoy the staff.

Now trying to get my brother to pluck up the courage to see if he can get my mum an SQ bear couple as she loves those kinds of things and it's a return to the Scottish mother land for her after being away 55+ years.

Anyone know if the bears are still available? Seem to get conflicting reports when i do some google searches. Was thinkign to try to get an "anniversary caked" for her, but not sure if i should push me luck.

Does he normally fly LCCs?

Is he flying J or F? I've seen photos of bears in F posted recently.

my parents flying experience has been a few JQ flights to Tasmania and Melbourne.

They're flying J. Was lucky to get parents and brother on the same flight. At least my brother has done a couple of international flights in the bus section, so I'm hoping he can keep them organised.

The sad thing is my brother is a teetotaler and my dad really only drinks a bit of port, and my mum might have a snifter of brandy and that's about it. I feel like i should be entitled to a drinks coupon as compensation :). Will just have to make up for it on my F trip to Tokyo mid Nov.

Well if their experience is JQ, SQ will certainly be a delight :)

.......

I think it was Michael Parkinson that told a story about sending his parents somewhere first class and his dad was shocked that drinks were included. It was really cute to hear.

SQ FA's are generous? Not in my experience.

I asked for Coke light. Received half a small cup. Asked for more Coke Light. Received another half small cup. I then asked for can of Coke Light. Grumpy looks as if it was coming out of her pay packet. I asked for can of Coke Light twice more during the ~8hr flight. If looks could kill.

So please excuse me if I don't sing SQ's praises. I use SQ when they are convenient.

calgarychris we just cannot have you wearing PJs from some second tier carrier like QF or EK - I will get you appropriately attired in SQ F PJs - or 'Sleeper Suits' as us more refined pointy end pax know them.

I have a dozen sets here ranging from S to XL - pm me your sizes and address details and I will send you a couple sets in mail. Only proviso is that I usually take these 'Sleeper Suits' to local Salvos store where they sell them for $10/set - I would still like to see the Salvos get a buck or 2 to help others so next time you see a Salvos collection tin drop $20 in there and the world will be a better place.

Sleeper suits received, thanks very much @Cruiser Elite! We're really looking forward to the trip - hopefully it lives up to the expectation! Given we're accustomed to QF Y as our baseline, with the occasional trip in JQ and VA, I'm hoping we'll be blown away!

Thanks again - photos and donation to follow!

Regarding your SQ J flights I'll leave the suggestions to SQ frequent flyers and there are quite a few here but since you've mentioned BTC, the lobster is good :)

This is interesting. I flew SQ J and BTC from SIN-BKK. Ordered the lobster and was really disappointed. So much so, that I changed it on the return flight. Was it just a bad day ...... everyone else on this forum loves it (and I love lobster too!!) :-|

The lobster in F/R is a better version.

JohnK, currently the service is much better in J and F.

But as it relates to economy, if you'd posted this 12 months ago I would have vehemently disagreed with you. After my last two flights, I'd say you are spot on. This is coming from a big SQ fan and defender. I suspect the Singapore service culture ("cannot lah") is finally permeating the airline, and after warding it off for many years, now there is little they can do about it.

Alrighty, so we're back! :) The trip was great and SQ was fantastic. I may have (er) enjoyed the lounge a fair bit so I slept well on the MEL-SIN leg. We managed to miss the free tour at Chiangi (the signup says "registrations close at 8am not BE there at 8am...we rocked up at 8:30). SQ 916 SIN-MNL was fantastic - the seats were smaller but Vivien our FSS took fantastic care of us, always addressed us by name, answered my inane questions (uniform colours) and generally made the trip fantastic. I asked if I could get her name to send an email thank you to HQ. The only complaint from Ms. CC was that the USA beef on SQ916 was "dry as a hockey puck". The steaks on MEL-SIN were fantastic though. As promised, photos with sleeper suits attached (thanks again @Cruiser_Elite, Ms CC was totally chuffed). Donation to follow.
