It should be fine, no worse and no better than most places.
The only time I had any problems there was when I arrived via cruise ship and departed via plane. When departing there were issues because for some reason they had no record of me arriving (something must have gone screwy with the immi process getting off the boat) and they couldnt figure out how I could be leaving if I never "arrived" he he.

I have never seen Dubai airport being quiet or fine to my liking.
Dubai airport has always busy with swampped of people everywhere and has always been quite intimidating for me; mind you, I had never arrived at Dubai airport at night, we had always arriving at around 5 am local time.
