Took my first flight in early 1982 when I moved to Australia as a toddler. I can't remember that flight though. It took me another 18 years, in the year 2000, to take my first overseas flight (Singapore and Hong Kong).
Alanslegal that might be the longest time from first to second overseas trip! 18 years, I wonder if anyone on AFF took so long ðŸ
Yeah unfortunately our family came to Australia with nothing, other than the clothes on our backs. Mum and dad worked their bottoms off - doing labouring jobs / sometimes two or more jobs that nobody wanted - so the five of us kids could go to school, complete university, and make the most of the opportunity that we got - in this lucky country. Dad bought a brand new VN Commodore in 1988 and we did a few long road trips around Australia, apparently Commodores were fashionably back then. Road trips was all we could afford - and flying around the world with 5 children in tow, even if they could afford it - which they couldn't, was likely not going to be fun. My parents worked their butts off to ensure that we are where we are today, so I am very grateful for that. Nowadays, we offer to repay them by letting them go Wherever they want, Whenever they want - on the kid's money. Of course, they stubbornly refuse to do so.

Is Tasmania classed as overseas? Did go on a school trip there when I was in Year 11 a year or so back (who's going to argue with my maths????)Tasmania in 1978 whilst still at school. Hadn't even seen the map at that stage of life.
Hong Kong in 1992, flying into Kai Tak was awesome.
