I'm supposed to be flying up to Brisbane on Thursday night for a weekend (birthday) in Stanthorpe. Am watching and may cancel.

Last time I was in Stanthorpe was Xmas 2010, the drive back to Brisbane on 27/12 was more than a little hair raising. I was the last over Cunninghams Gap before a slip closed the road.

Don't really want to repeat that especially as I will be in a rental Corolla this time not my trusty Subaru.

QF WP, are they coming soon to rebuild, is the ins co going to help out?
No, we always knew retaining walls were excluded. Negotiations with both sets of neighbours after getting legal clarification. Thank God for keeping good records when we bought the property.

Receiving this email doesn't help either

Information on your flight
Dear MR ,
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast adverse weather on Thursday 19th Feb. Your Virgin Australia flight may potentially be affected. We will work to have guests safely on their way as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Kind Regards,
Virgin Australia

Same here - not a problem not going up this weekend but it will be painful to have to pay for a rental car which I won't use.

Interesting to see if Brisbane river has issue again????
So can you use purchased Virgin insurance here?
Plane leaves on time.... Just does circle work before landing hey?

Cyclone Lam has not yet turned south as they were predicting and is approaching DRW - I may see my first cyclone.

I only read about this today on AFF. I hope there isn't that much damage around. I am also hoping to be back in SYD this weekend and leaving Friday afternoon. Coming back up to OOL on Sunday and for some reason I have visions of a few years back where it took me 9+ hours after I left SYD to get to my apartment in BNE via OOL.

Did you prepay the rental car? I believe Hertz and Avis have a pay later option and I have cancelled the rental the day before and not being charged anything.

Im doing my maiden 2015 flight into OOL Thurs evening and then down to Byron for a long weekend . Somehow i dont think im going to get much beachtime over the weekend.

Here comes the rain (has hit Fortitude Valley, next to CBD):

512 km composite Brisbane (Mt Stapylton) Radar Loop

Got your floaties out yet amaroo? :D

On a serious note, I hope that our drainage works today - so do my wife and neighbour who came to view our retaining wall last night. Nice to see them showing concern - and he stayed an hour and we got on really well. So maybe not all is lost...

Should be some awesome swells though - and (beach) washaways are expected the length and breath of both Coasts.

If you look at the 128KM radar from Gympie the Sunshine Coast at the moment is not getting the really heavy stuff.Worse to the North and South.
