From the AFR

"Qantas’ domestic cabin crew have overwhelmingly voted in a ballot for industrial action.

The result, which threatens to disrupt Christmas travel for millions of Australians, clears the way for the cabin crew to stop work for up to 24 hours, ban overtime work and withdraw from boarding responsibilities as they fight for better pay and conditions."

Grounding of the fleet Mark II?

Breaking news in the SMH - could become extremely disruptive if indeed going ahead. Hopefully they can come to an agreement before 9 Dec.

I am not looking forward to next Friday. I’m booked OOL - SYD and SYD - SIN on separate tickets. 4 and a 1/2 hours between flights, but it sounds like things will descend into chaos.

I heard that on the ABC. Like the article, they referred to a strike "next Friday", on "9 December".

So which is it?

There could be mass disruption to both domestic and international air travel next Friday, with aviation firefighters preparing to walk off the job.

Key points:
Every aviation firefighter at 27 national airport fire stations is set to stop work for four hours from 6am on December 9

The 27 airports include major international airports Sydney and Melbourne.

Friday 9th

The union has received a guarantee of a 4.9 per cent pay rise plus in coming years, additional firefighters.

More cost to the Federal Budget! Are extra firefighters really required?

From 'Herald Sun' (Melbourne):

Travellers can breathe a sigh of relief after strike action that threatened to throw travel plans into chaos at Melbourne Airport on Friday was scrapped.

Nice to see you back again!

Who needs firefighters at airports.

And I of course would fly out of MCY and into LST and then in reverse when working. A real daredevil. ;) :D
