A relaxing sleep in at Hilton Mel South Wharf on a Sunday am has been RUDELY interrupted by the fire alarm going off at 0650am!!:evil::evil:

Your response:
1) turn over and try and go back to sleep
a) and say nothing to hotel
b) make complaint to hotel

2) get up and surf internet and AFF
a) and say nothing to hotel
b) make complaint to hotel

3) get up and surf internet and AFF and then try and go back to sleep
a) and say nothing to hotel
b) make complaint to hotel

....sorry just had to rant. My response is either 2) or 3) at moment; still deciding about a) or b):(:(:(

Mine would be 2b.Might get some extra hhonors points!

If having ascertained that it's a false alarm, mine would be 1B. More points are good. :)

Ring reception to determine if real?
10 minutes after the fire alarm finally stopped, a loud PA was made saying it was a false alarm:evil:.....the PA was louder then the fire alarm:evil::evil::evil:

....and whilst surfing AFF as I was now wide awake, I've now booked Bne-Mel-Syd-Nan-Syd-Mel-Bne in J to help requalify for WP:shock::shock::shock:

Damn you Hilton!

PS how come there are so many AFFers up so early on Sun am...and posting as well! (assuming you are all in Oz currently!)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I've gone for 3b.

It is currently 1.52pm on Saturday in SF and I am still sitting in bed with a headache and a stamp on my wrist...:D Hosted some Melbourne people here last night. It was nice to hear familiar accents and see familiar faces again. :)

Where are you staying Nadi?

If the alarm was due to faulty equipment on the part of the hotel, then the hotel is to blame.

If the alarm was due to an incident caused by hotel staff, then the hotel is to blame.

If the alarm was due to an errant guest who happened to somehow escape the "Rejected" gene pool during the phase of procreation, then the guest is to blame.

Either way, I would make it my duty to find whoever is to blame and make sure that at least one other person has a headache that day...very much literally.

I've been evac'd from two places I've stayed in. Neither were fun events.

A 6:30am evac was not appreciated, but I didn't complain. Some of the ladies who also evac'd were very impressed when 3 blokes turn up - one with no shirt and a very tight pair of undies, and the others only had a little more on. :)

As for my answer to the original question - I may ask for additional points, but not really sure I would care too much. Fire Alarms are par for staying in hotels (unfortunately)

No fire alarms during the CHC earthquake, I slept through it

Early to bed,Early to rise makes a man.....Yeh well sometimes it doesn't work.;)

I was staying on 39th floor at the Circle On Cavill on the Gold Coast two weeks ago, and was woken at 11:45pm to the sounds of EVACUATE, EVACUATE. Carried my 3 year old down 39 floors and was told 5 mins later we could go back to bed.

kpc, I agree with anat0l. I'd much rather have a false alarm than be dead. I'd do 3c, but ask to have spoken to the GM, Michael Bourne.

Sarge1, having a 3 yo as well, I know that wouldn't have been easy. Impressive.

you have all been lucky
admittedly I stay in hotels Monday to Friday every week of the year
but I still think I have an unusually high average, perhaps because I stay in cheap hotels

My record is 3 times in one night at quest on dixon in Sydney
but also recently Pensione on george street sydney
hotel ibis world square sydney
aarons hotel sydney
breakfree on george sydney
carrington apartments sydney
seasons hotel sydney (not the four seasons, seasons hotel, the whole time I stayed there I could smell burning)

I am sure theres more
also had an interesting experience in auckland when there was no power for 2 days
and in chennai india when there was a flood from the roof

I always get dressed quickly first but not everyone does which makes it fairly amusing
also some grown men/women like to sleep in spongebob squarepants, spiderman, my little pony sleepwear

We had been planning a quiet weekend at the Hilton South Wharf to get away from the chaos at home, but skipped it in the end - looks like we dodged a bullet!

Sorry to hear about the disruption kpc, hope you get some recourse from the option you choose. :)

Have you met JohnK, you both seem to have similar veins of luck?

I didn't get back to sleep and surfed AFF for quite a while, before we headed downstairs for breakfast. My +1 noticed the DFO stores next to the Hilton so we headed there....although I made the tactical and brilliant move of asking her to continue shopping in peace in the early afternoon while I headed back to the hotel for a catnap:idea:.

I didn't mention the early fire alarm to the hotel as I had hard enough time at check out getting my 20% discount for using the Hilton Premium "member for a stay" card:shock:....the girl training the other girl had absolutely no idea how to process the discount and had to make 3 phone calls to work it out (hope I get my HHonors pts). I do have the GM's card with his email and mobile no. but really can't be bothered complaining....

kpc,

It is strange that they could not apply the 20% as they come across the issue regularly for prepaid HPC stays. I've never had an issue getting it sorted.

I can give the email of the GM's assistant (who is very responsive) if you wish.
