I am writing to you from YZF in northern Canada. My family of four is embarking on a 6 month round the world trip from approximately April 1 to September 30, 2020. I realize that the current RTW sale for Finnair is ending today and is not for my intended time period. I notice that they have several sales throughout the year but I so was hoping to do the initial leg work now and based at looking at this site, several of you seem to be knowledgeable about this product. I’m hoping you can help me answer a few questions or at least tell me if I am misinformed.

I am hoping to buy business class tickets and this is my proposed itinerary so far:

Europe: Helsinki (free) and either Rome or Dubrovnik
North America: Vancouver or Toronto/New York
South America: Santiago – Lima //own arrangements
Asia: Bangkok – Ho Chi Minh City// own arrangements
Australia: Sydney or Cairns

My questions for you are as follows:

Can I start my travel in Canada or should I reposition and start in Europe? Will it increase costs significantly if I start in Canada or New York?

Would do you recommend a certain direction or order?

I am pretty flexible with the locations I have selected. Should I pick other cities based on airport fees?

For Europe, I may take a regional carrier and go visit Italy and/or Morocco. For Asia, the plan is to for sure visit Thailand and Vietnam.

Does FinnAir allow me to take on South Africa for an extra charge?

Am I on the right track? Any advice?

Thanks in advance and sorry this is so long!

Finnair will let you do Australia - South America - North America - Europe - Asia - Australia in that order or vice versa. It's about 9-10k AUD for that routing. If you want to add Africa you would either do that as a side trip from Europe, or go to a oneworld explorer fare which is in the $13-15k AUD ball park.
