Finnair news

I have 4 AY J flights booked, September and December. Hopefully it will all be dusted by then.
Or depending on your route you might hope for a cancellation and rebooking with a partner. Someone recently got rebooked onto Qatar to come back instead and had 2 Qsuite legs which i think is a worthy trade.

HKG-HEL-FCO and COP-HEL-HKG, first set would be ok, not sure of much choice for the return. All are J rewards.

The ongoing Finnair strikes/issues this year have been quite disappointing.

I was due to fly with Finnair in March and it was announced the day before my flight that there would be a big strike on the day of my flight with many flights cancelled. I couldn't risk not getting to my destination, so rocked up to the airport the day before and asked to change my flight. They agreed and I flew out the night before I was originally booked (no change fees paid).

Another flight that I took with Finnair in March was cancelled at the last minute. This was unrelated to the strikes - the inbound plane could not land due to the weather. Fair enough, but as it was the last flight for the day I had to get a hotel for the night. Finnair did nothing to assist with booking a hotel and just told me to find something and keep the receipts. I filed a claim to get reimbursement for the hotel and Ubers to/from the airport the day after, which was two months ago. I'm still waiting for Finnair to process a refund for these costs. Not impressed with that.

Certainly watching this thread with interest. Flew with AY to Spain end of April , dodged the AY strikes and the 16 hour power outage in Spain,. Have two flights with AY on our return journey mid June, fingers crossed.

Any idea whether the AY industrial action is significantly impacting non-AY ground ops at HEL?

Opting to save 30 or 40 euros late last year, I booked a HEL-ARN flight on Norwegian for June. Given the recent AY issues, I'm now feeling pretty happy with that choice - but funny to think that I was concerned about higher likelihood of delay/cancellation with D8 at the time of booking!

I have 4 AY classic reward Y flights booked for short haul in Europe in August and September, so I too hope it will be sorted by then.

Well I flew with Finnair yesterday (one of the strike days) and my flight ran completely on time with no issues. HEL airport didn't seem to be any more crowded than usual, if anything a bit quieter (probably due to all the other flights that were pre-cancelled in advance). There was even catering on my flight, although it was just the usual water/blueberry juice and cart with items for sale, since I was on an ATR with Y only.

Catering strike affected my flight earlier today.
This was J on a 3 hour flight ex-HEL
Still Water/ Blueberry juice/ Tea/Coffee and the cookie.
That was all that was available. Same as Y except for the hot drinks.

I’d be very wary of actively booking AY right now given the multiple strikes across the various unions.

Just checked in for a RIX-HEL flight. Today is one of the strike days. At this point my flight is not cancelled, so hopefully all good.

Conversation at check-in went something like this:

Agent:" The specific flight you're booked on has been cancelled quite a lot recently, especially on strike days. So you might be in for a long wait in the lounge."
Me: "Oh, if that's the case, can I take the earlier flight instead? I see there's one going in an hour that has empty seats."
Agent: "No, you can't because you're on a Superlight fare."
Me: "But you just told me my flight was at high risk of getting cancelled. It doesn't make sense not to send me on an earlier flight if that one is definitely running and has empty seats."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "But you can't rebook me onto that flight?"
Agent: "No I cannot."

🤷‍♂️

On other strike days I've had better luck with getting rebooked even when my flight wasn't officially cancelled yet, but that's been at HEL and not at an outstation.

Flight yesterday went fine - just no full catering.

I’m back at HEL this morning for another round of Stockholm syndrome.

Today is not a strike day but it’s chaos at check-in. The baggage system is not working so there are piles of bags lying around that won’t make it onto people’s flights. The queue for security is also ridiculous. The priority queue goes all the way to the other end of the check-in hall and then some more. Many people will miss their flights.

It was actually much better flying out on Monday, when there was a strike on. There were no lines!

This is the priority queue for security:
