Catering strike affected my flight earlier today.
This was J on a 3 hour flight ex-HEL
Still Water/ Blueberry juice/ Tea/Coffee and the cookie.
That was all that was available. Same as Y except for the hot drinks.

I’d be very wary of actively booking AY right now given the multiple strikes across the various unions.

We received the enhanced cut down catering in yesterday’s Eurobiz 3 hr trip. A cheese salad roll and health bar . Understand that there are logistical issues in catering due to strike action , but to have no drinks available, other than tea/coffee, berry juice and water seems pretty stingy.

Okay, I’ve thrown away 12,000 Qantas points to cancel and re-book on KLM instead. This was getting way too risky and I don’t want to spoil our honeymoon. Sad, I always loved my wild European zig zags via Helsinki.

Why not hold off on cancellation in case there is an involuntary cancellation prior to departure which would then entitle you to a full refund?

Smart man! This thought did not occur to me to be honest and now it’s too late. I was in one track mind mode to ensure we’re not endangering our honeymoon plans.

With my luck, now our Qatar flights to Europe probably get cancelled, after what just went down in Iran

Soooooo, got a warning email from Finnair about upcoming strike 7 July, with risk of cancellation.
I am on Qantas J award BNE-KIX (JQ) - 2.5h connection - KIX-HEL (AY, departing 6 July, arriving 7 July 05:30) - 2h connection - HEL-NCE (AY1601).
AY1601 is not yet cancelled, flight cancelled will be announced 2 days prior. The flight is zero-ed on Expertflyer, i guess Finnair stop the sales preemptively.

By the nature of the Qantas award / multi airline, I doubt I can fix the problem now by calling.

Questions:
1. Anyone knows if EU261 compensation will apply? The uncertainty I have comes from the strike action. I know that if it is a Finnair strike, then yes, but it feels like the strike is wider than Finnair staff.

2. If AY1601 is cancelled by the time I am at BNE, what are my chances to be rerouted from there? I guess zero, JQ wouldn't care?

3. If AY1601 is cancelled by the time I am at KIX, what are my chances to be rerouted from there (I found an EK flight that would work fine).

I think your best odds are to monitor. JQ likely won't be able to help you (and Qantas) as its a Finair problem. If it is cancelled by the time you're at KIX you can try asking the outsourced groundstaff but if the long haul to HEL isn't cancelled, they may still send you to HEL and then deal with it at HEL.

We had potentially similar issues with planned AY strikes on 17/6 and 19/6. Qantas were willing to reschedule our award flights, subject to availability and at a cost in points. We were flying on the 18/6 and 19/6. On the 17/6 , 143 AY flights were cancelled, We decided to wing it so to speak. Thankfully, our flights did not get cancelled, but the intra Europe flight had minimal catering provided.
