Finding discount paid J fares AU-EU

If positioning on Jetstar from MEL-SIN to catch a flight on a seperate booking to Europe, is 24 hours considered long enough between flights to allow for potential delays on JQ?

It should be, even for Jetstar.

Aside from that, often with "Qantas group" cancellations other "Qantas Group" services are utilised, so plenty of backup.

If you're prepared to go to HEL and back, AY is offering decently priced mixed class Y/J fares to Europe from about $4.8k (although budget $5.6k to avoid JQ and have reasonable layovers through SIN/NRT/HKG). Big advantage is that the positioning flight in Y is on the same ticket and therefore the connection is protected.
