Finally crossed over 1400 status credits to earn Qantas Platinum - Questions...

Putting the W back in to WP.
Was thinking the same thing! What if there were others in line also hoping to get a shower due to the lounge F being busy?

I recently had a similar situation, hoping to shower at DFW before QF8 but for operational reasons the showers closed early so wasn't able to. Learned my lesson that showering, if you want to, should always come first. Yes, it was unfortunate as it's lovely to freshen up before a very long haul flight, but I wouldn't be cutting in line in front of others at a different lounge to try to squeeze one in.

If I were to book this trip again I think I would book AA to be quite frank. First for the Flagship First check-in experience, second because Qantas and American Airlines are identical in terms of status credit accrual and points earnings, third it would be nice to try a new airline long haul, fourth AA fares tend to be cheaper than QF fares IME, and lastly to avoid having to hear acknowledgement of country.
Is a 10 second announcement over the PA on landing, and 5 seconds at the end of the safety video, so much of a frustration to be worth changing carrier?

I look forward to your report on AA long haul Y.

Also, note that points and SCs might be the same but QF flight/codeshare will count towards loyalty bonus, platinum bonus and P1.

Once you check in with QF at TBIT, turn around, walk outside to T4, go through security there - it's way faster. Go to the Flagship lounge for a shower and then head up to the QF lounge when you're hungry.

TBIT security for evening departures is a circus. T4 that time of night has tumbleweeds.
He has TSA pre. Lines for that are minimal to non-existent at TBIT even in the evening.
But yes for anyone who doesn’t then definitely T4.

Is there still the side door to TBIT transfer security off to the left facing in from roadway?

I did once or twice. It used to bring you up to the T4 connector to the left or TBIT departures ahead. You could see the heaving mass at TSA through windows as you waltzed by above.
That security point disappeared some time ago. It was a very handy access to the connector. I still turn right after baggage recheck & take the lift to TBIT departures and head to QF first lounge for a shower. Works with early morning flight ex Australia when TBIT security is quiet.

I remember boarding one international flight which was a cluster. Not Qantas. Huge backlog waiting to board at the entrance to the plane. Along came this guy pushing from the back yelling 'make way, I'm in Business'. I think in unison we all turned and said - so are we! He didn't get any further.

I tried to use it earlier this year, it was open, but attendant at entrance wanted to see an AA BP before they would let me through ... no other BP would do.

Stand corrected. I saw that security person last week. Thought they had closed the passage for building works, very dilapidated part of terminal. Will give it a try next time.

☝️☝️☝️ was thinking the exact same thing as I read through that bit.

For any newbies/lurkers who might be coming close to Platinum and get a sense from this thread that it's acceptable behaviour - oneworld status does not include priority shower queues. Cutting in is extremely poor form.

I couldn't tell half the time if it there was a /s missing or wanting to test the W part.

I've definitely missed showering before flights due to spending too long eating and suddenly the showers are all full.

I did warn you to book your preferred shower timeslot with attendant on arrival. Had you done this you could have dined around availability. Being on one of the earlier flights it was always going to be busy.
I arrived at the Qantas First lounge at approximately 6:45 PM. If I requested a shower in advance, then yes you are quite right maybe I would have a had a spot. But I wanted to enjoy my meal first before taking the shower and didn't want that to be interrupted when a shower were to become available. At the same time, I figured the lounge would have enough capacity to host shower requests without there being a huge backlog.
Cutting in line at J lounge isn't an entitlement of being a WP and quite rude, surprised there wasn't a mutiny from those already queuing who should not have had to accommodate your own disorganisation.
If there is any disorganization, respectfully it is from Qantas. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that a shower would be made available to their First Class guests in a timely manner. In terms of cutting in front of people at the lounge, well ask yourself this, who would be entering that lounge? People in business or are Sapphire, well if everything is based on priority then I'm at the head of the queue. It's no different with Flagship First check-in with AA where you are escorted to the very front of the security queue. Some may find that rude and inconsiderate, but it's a perk for travelling so much. Now if there were other World Platinums entering the lounge to use said shower, well then maybe an argument could be made there that this was a bit inconsiderate. Then again, I would be expecting World Platinums to be doing the same thing.

There was no queue at TSA pre-check at TBIT when I arrived at 6:40 PM. It took maybe 2 minutes to go through that.

There is an escalator you can take on the left hand side that leads to TSA pre-check.

You might find the odd one or two Emeralds behaving like you did but feel pretty safe in saying they are in the absolute minority. I'd have been embarrassed if I was a travelling partner. I suggest you don't try this on other airlines, like EK, or Qatar. They do not like queue jumpers. And you weren't travelling in F so you were not a First class passenger.

But everything isn't based on priority. Your status affords you some priority benefits at check-in, boarding, and security. Separately, you receive access to enter lounges.

You are not entitled to demand priority over lower status pax at all aspects of the airport experience - be it showers, toilets, bar service, whatever - especially when you have no one to blame but yourself for your own lack of time management.

Some may find that rude and inconsiderate, but it's a perk for travelling so much.

Read the virtual room. No one is agreeing with you on this.

Cutting the queue at the lounge was needed because flight was set to board in half an hour and I needed that shower as I had suntan lotion all over me from my day out in the LA sun and I wasn't gonna sit on a plane for 15 minutes with that on me. I generally board last but thought I'd board early in this circumstance given I was seated in a bulkhead and wanted to see how boarding as a World Platinum worked (or didn't).

Not that I intend to use this information, but how does one actually cut the queue for the showers? I thought it was some kind of “buzzer” arrangement rather than a physical queue you could jump in front of?

Another cause for disappointment was boarding. In particular, it seems like everyone and his dog had priority boarding (i.e. Platinum Ones all the way down to Golds, J and Premium Economy). Nevertheless, I cut in front of everyone as again, I'm a Platinum so top priority and boarded early without having to deal with the stupid biometric e-gates at US airports.
Surely this has to be a troll (in which case, well played, you've got the response you were probably seeking). But just in case you aren't being sarcastic — may I ask what made you think you were the most important person in this instance? By your logic, a P1 or CLPO would be higher status, so did you personally walk the line and check everyone's status first or did you just come to the conclusion that you were better than everyone else?

It's a moot point anyway, as there is absolutely no published benefit stating that WP or even P1/CL boards before any other priority boarding eligible status.

Massive DYKWIA vibes coming from this post... or actual WP vibes, and by 'W' I certainly don't mean 'World'!

Presumably it would involve harassing the poor shower attendant enough that they don't buzz the next in line when a shower frees up.
