FINALLY! - Citi launching Citi Prestige with Visa Infinite

I thought most people here would have to give someone a full time job to keep track of points earn. :)

IME impossible to ever reconcile Citi pts earning and posting - occasionally I check with an excel spread sheet and if it looks anywhere near close then it is what it is.

Yes near enough is good enough so I don't call them about the highs and lows of points earn as they may then look closer at your account and decide to really fix you up.

Just wondering if it is me or do you find that Citibank is very trigger happy on putting a hold on your credit card.

I do about 10 overseas trips a year. I call Citi to lhem know in advance and I inevitably most trips I have a hold put on the card because of "suspicious" transactions. The last one was for a tip on a meal.

Very very frustrating and never have the same problem with other banks.

Anyone have the same issues. Really thinking of ditching this card.

Very frustrating and time consuming to fix.

Citi are terrible at fraud detection.
I'm overseas a lot and Citi will flag a transaction (and pause the card) for a merchant I religiously shop at every month for the same amount.

They will also let large purchases through no problem.

I can't trust the card to work overseas any longer.
Now it's Amex or cash.

Select card is currently working too well through Alaska/Seattle/BC/Alberta and also for the first time in months not had a 24 hour hold placed on domestic regular card usage. That has been an ongoing fun and games the past six months where Citi don't want to lose me but are trying to curb my level of card usage.
Have never bothered to ring them about my movements and agree their fraud protection is abysmal as let through a ridiculous purchase last year in Tangiers where the wife and I had a one off big splurge.

Use the card oseas every trip, around 10-15 weeks a year. Never called and only had the card stopped once- for a fraudulent transaction. I find them pretty decent for this.

Maybe they need to build a profile on you?

I don't understand it either - I think Citi are sensational to deal with re Prestige - I never call them - they occasionally call me when they see an o/s transaction I made - just clarify it is my spend - never block card - and just keep giving me pts end of month - and all with no annual fee. Throw in $2,000 worth of free accom by way of 4/3 over next month and this card is 'Christmas On A Stick'!

can someone remind me of the stay 4/ pay 3 rules again please?

can't do more than 1 room at a time, and can't do back to back right?

I have never booked multiple rooms but clearly that could problematic when Primary Cardholder needs to be staying in the room. It was posted where rooms were booked for family members and check in advised Primary cardholder would be arriving later - you just then require payment on the CC used to secure the 4/3 booking.

As for back to back simple NO - unless like Cruiserette and myself where 2 people hold Prestige to book back to back then it is quite easy.

Hi,

Does anyone know if utilities and insurance bills still get 2 points/$?
It's very difficult to find out what gets excluded from as well..

I've been getting full points on insurance in recent weeks. Have been paying all my utility bills on Amex via PayPal so can't confirm on that score. I haven't seen any exclusions outlined before but you never know.

Thank you! I was contemplating to use Amex or Citi. I will try my luck Citi. (although I am not sure if I can really tell if I got all the points or not)

Use Amex (direct issued) only via PayPal or you're going to get only half points. Citi much easier but for the problem with keeping track of it.

I thought my points were short two months ago and then long the following month. I think they use a dart board to help them calculate points earn. Still I do not call them.

Firstly, thank you all for sharing all your knowledge/experience on AFF.

I tried to apply for the prestige cc online yesterday but the online form did not have an option for me to select Qantas rewards. So I ended up ringing the call centre in the ?Phillipines. The operator asked which prestige cc deal I was after. I mentioned the 70k rewards points. He immediately asked me to apply via the phone with him and he can also half my annual card fees for the first year. I cannot seem to find this deal online anywhere. So, to those potential new card applicants out there - might want to try applying through the call centre and get your fees halved for the first year. BTW not a citigold customer.

Fellow members, has anyone taken a look at the FX rates that citi prestige is charging?

Just made a $6k USD payment 2 days ago, and the rate I was being charged was around 0.719 AUD = 1 USD, I think at the time the Xe.com rate is around 0.75

Is this still inline with the advantage of citi cards has over other CC a year back? I have got the separate 4ish% FX transaction charge yet, this doesn't seem to get applied the same time as the actual transaction

haven't checked recently - but do be careful about what it initially shows as, vs what the actual statement shows - i've been done by a nasty surprise multiple times, relying on the conversion showing as 'pending'!
