FINALLY! - Citi launching Citi Prestige with Visa Infinite

I am not sure if this is the place to ask the question.

I utilize the prestige card for points and was wondering if members had a transfer partner that gives the biggest bang for your buck.

I am a Gold QFF member so have been using the points with qantas but reading through the different threads it appears that Qantas redemption rates are among the highest in the industry and not great value for money. Eg. is having a domestic fare upgraded to business bne-lax was 72,000 points one way.

Was very disheartened to learn that people were getting return business class flights with 100k points with other airlines.

Any insights as to which program is best to use? Krisflyer, AsiaMiles, Velocity?

Appreciate the knowledge in advance.

The best value out of prestige is definitely with Krisflyer. A sweet spot is SYD/MEL/BNE - AMS in business for 68000 KF miles, or 102000 citipoint. Other European destinations such as London and Paris would be 85000 KF miles.

The other one that's also good value is Asia miles if Oneworld carrier is your preference. QF flight SYD/BNE to LAX in business return is 120k, or 240k citipoint. Or you can do RTW trip in business class for 190k AM points, when QF charges 280k for similar trip.

THank you Vag newbie.

Any tools online that can help us make a decision re:redemption sweet spot?

I found flyora.com but have no idea what the numbers mean.

I don't think you can transfer to either SPG or Avios with Citiprestige. I am happy to be wrong as I will be so happy if Citipoints can be transferred to SPG!

I logged in to double check and you are right !

The followings are on offer (no particular order):

MH, QR, SQ, TG, VA, GA, AF, EY, EK, BR, DL, AM

IHG, HH, Club Carlson

BR has the lowest transfer rate (0.333 for 1 Citi point) !

@iso -- it was briefly possible when they updated the transfer partner list, but Avios dropped off after a month or so (probably when they realised Australians aren't supposed to be able to have BAEC accounts).

I sent Citi spend to QFF religiously for years - well over 2m points and then one day I did the math and worked out if I had been sending those same points to velocity I would have had something like 300k more points and lower taxes etc.

Since then I've switched all my cards out of QF earning and - unfortunately for qantas it means I can't actually get points into QFF even when it makes sense to have QFF points.

Value depends on how you use them and there's no blanket rule. Short haul domestic is one strategy and long haul first class is another. By warehousing them in Citibank you are afforded the option to pick and choose the best of both worlds. Of course - nobody uses points for economy flights so status isn't required most of the time :)

Awesome. Thank you for the explanation. I have never liked the Qantas 1:1 earn ratio so always kept it my prestige points.

In the good old days you could transfer a chunk to Qantas and those were marvellous.

I'm still learning about krisflyer and Asia miles, seems like they are indeed redemption sweetspots if going to Singapore and HK.

Thanks for all the input. This forum is an amazing knowledge share.

I think it depends on what you want to use the points on. For me, I don't see the big deal in travelling business (I do it all the time for work), so I'm happy with economy fares (important as I have 3 kids too) allowing me to travel more often.

Then you will get very little value out of the card. The fuel surcharge of these transfer partners is about 70-80% of the cheapest economy fare (the latter still earns you status and miles), you might as well purchase ticket outright.

If traveling on F&J is not your thing, then perhaps you should consider a low annual fee cash back card as you will get better value out of it.

Or I use it for hotel stays or shall I say it gift cards (I know many will be annoyed at this comment).

The annual fee is halved and I get enough value in the cards vs. my signature card (which is free)

quick question guys, I put in a separate application (not an upgrade), and got approved. However the new card automatically appeared in my current citi login.

Now i wonder whether I will still get the signon bonus.

Did you have a preexisting citi credit card? If no, u shud b fine

I had a citi saving account and the log in is all the same. I got the sign up bonus.

i do have an existing signature card, which I want to keep.

I read in the prior post that as long as you apply for a separate line of credit, you'd get the bonus.

Just want to find out my options if that bonus doesn't come through.

Anyone know how long does it take for the bonus to turn up?

Did you get approved straight away on the online application? Or did it take a few days?
