Fiji Airlines new A330 lands in Nadi

FIJI'S elite gathered with hundreds of spectators at Nadi International Airport today to watch the delivery of the holiday's destination's first Airbus A330. There was a carnival atmosphere as aircraft, sporting striking new Fiji Aiways livery, performed a fly-past, and then landed to applause and cheers.
The A330 is a big step for Fiji's Air Pacific and the island state and is one of three to be delivered this year. The three planes have a list price of $US600m and sport the latest lie-flat seats in business class and on-demand video throughout the plane. .

Air Pacific, which is rebranding as Fiji Airways, hopes the planes will help the airline better compete against Australian and New Zealand carriers.
It it is the first time Air Pacific, 46 per cent owned by Qantas, has purchased wide-body aircraft and its first Airbus aircraft. Christened The Island of Taveuni, the new plane will go into service on April 2 to Auckland.

Really is a great new livery, for some reason the old Air Pacific rainbow logo and tail always reminded me of a Splice ice cream!

AusBT has a photo feature on the new interiors from the delivery flight, looks like the soon-to-be Fiji Airways has the same seats as Virgin's new A330s.

Really look forward to travelling on one of these, On my 2 J flights on Air Pacific last year, the crew on-board were fantastic despite the squishy 737 J cabin, food was great too.

Wonder if QF will take Fiji Airways more seriously now...

Well FJ will be using far more comfortable aircraft on their short/medium haul Pacific routes than QF does on theirs, that's for sure.

Hard to take them seriously when you have money invested in them and have been kicked out of the boardroom or however that went down!

They do look good though, so it would be nice to see them have a better working relationship... though wonder where all the money for new planes is coming from?

Qantas has said the new A330 product will be lie-flat. Fitting the angled-flat product used by both their biggest domestic competitor (VA) and a major international competitor (SQ) might not be positively received.

I've always wondered about that, also would be interesting to see how much money they actually make (or loose) from the venture, and what the % of pax that are flying on QF codeshare vs FJ codes and how the revenue split goes, considering their prices are pretty much the same...

They could run NAN-SYD (or NAN-MEL) return and NAN-BNE return on the same day with one aircraft.

FJ operated the A330 flight HKG-NAN with passengers! My cousin was an invited guest and got to fly in J class! She was very impressed.
