Fiji air complaining about Qantas again

I'd rather fly QF metal to NAN. FJ's 737 fleet doesn't have personal IFE at all in economy.

Their max's do, but I'd rather fly in an FJ A330 or A350 than any B737/A320
I'm ok with flying on QF's 738 so long as I'm in row 4. Doubt I'll be stepping foot on a 737 Max any time soon. Even after they return to service.

think the safest 737 will be a max, just like safest airline now is probably MH.

I'd love to see Qantas dump FIji Airways as a codeshare partner and start making some real "aggressive" moves 😁😁😁

But as the thread title suggests, FJ Airways loves complaining about the Qantas ownership/strategies. I've lived in Fiji for many years and know first hand that the Fiji Airways management/Government just wants everything in their favor.

I'm wondering if airlines affected by the MAX will receive compensation, from Boeing, or their insurers. It may not actually affect bottom lines.

Their business interruption insurance might cover it - or perhaps even the insurance on the aircraft themselves.

I know in advance that yet again I will accumulate more enemies for expressing my views, but here goes anyway.....

Fiji, as per pretty much all of Polynesia, basks in the glorious shadow of Australia's influence (and that of New Zealand to a lesser degree). Which essentially means that they are under no dire and direct threat to their existence or freedom. So in such "luxury" (from a world wide perspective) they can sit back and demand stuff without true fear of any repercussions.

The reality is that they are tiny nations, very isolated, with essentially nothing to offer in trade other than tourism and coconuts. Anyone can grow coconuts, so really their only ability to try to exist as anything other than primitive communities is to get tourism. And this they currently enjoy from Australia, a country with affluent people and a sense of fairness and respect. If Fiji was sitting just off the Chinese coast I suspect their aspirations and reality would be a hell of a lot different....

The Fijian airline was rescued from sheer bankruptcy by Qantas - not just in a financial sense but also with management. The changes just give a tad more competition - the reality is that without Qantas they would have ceased to exist as an airline many years ago. As would their economies if left alone....

I have to be a tad careful how I express myself - as I do truly love all the south pacific island nations, but I dislike this lack of reality. They dare to make waves only because Australia and Qantas are not tyrants. Because it is firmly within our culture to pander to minority groups and such forth.

Just look at the recent events regarding Global Warming discussions. They dare in such a tiny and protected corner of the world to try to morally blackmail Australia. They want handouts. They express alarm at humans burning carbon yet their entire economies require tourism from people from distant places. Their entir eeconomical existence REQUIRES people to be extravagant with the earth's resources.

When some of New Zealand's top research people clarified that certain island states were actually growing in physical size, as against the loved predictions of rising sea level doom, the people there did not want to hear this. Much better to sit back and cry and demand cash.....

But they only dare this because they are dealing with our nations and our proven habit of supporting them. When if they were dealing with most other countries they would have been obliterated long ago.

Dang, maybe I should have posted these thoughts in the outrageous thread.

am sure Boeing would have covered themselves legally, but they want to keep customers, so will probably be a few deals around on new orders. If airlines tried to bankrupt Boeing, everyone will lose.

FJ appear to have reduced the new A359s NAN/LAX services that were meant to be 6/week from Jan 1 to 4/week. The other 3 days a week now appear to be A332/333. The A359s have approx 61 more seats than the A332s. Sign of the times perhaps ?

& the 737 max's don't seem to appear anywhere I could see.

Having recently flown QF to Nadi, overall I was a bit dissapointed. I flew QF397/398 BNE-NAN.

QF397 - this flight was cancelled the day prior. QF rebooked us on FJ1920. FJ1920 was operated by Solomon Airlines.
QF398 - whilst this flight took place, it was operated by Malindo.

Overall, I paid the "higher" QF ticket prices thinking I was getting a OneWorld style service, whilst the people of both airlines involved did a great job and I commend them, the food, no IFE, quality of aircraft was not what I was expecting. Next time will fly SYD-NAN and book QF metal.

Where are the 359s being redeployed those dates? Extra capacity to Aus for school holidays?

QF 397 is FJ920

similarly QF 398 is FJ921

The 737 max debacle means FJ are 2 aircraft short. They leased Miami Air 738 short term & it has returned to Miami Air & now they have leased a Malindo 738. They can probably get by, without leasing a 2 aircraft by using the like of Solomons. Their A320 has a new interior but it an old aircraft.

Why would anyone fly BNE/SYD/NAN when can do it nonstop ? That would add 4 hours transit each way, mean a 0600 departure from BNE & have all the stuffing around at SYD.

don't know. can't see any extra SYD/NAN/SYD flights. Maybe FJ decided to now work the A359s so hard straight off the bat when A330s available & otherwise sitting around somewhere.

When you couldn't get a direct BNE-NAN award like us in December.Fortunately using an AA award we could get BNE-SYD-NAN for no extra points.
