Hi all.
I am in love with Japan and plan on holidaying there with my family for a couple of weeks every year hopefully. Trying to choose one of these FF programs is doing my head in. I currently have 300 000 altitude points with a Westpac Gold altitude card after 1 years use. I am not interested in a rewards / lounge access, but would not mind a stop over on the way over or back.
Can anyone recommend a program that would suit my circumstances.
Cheers.

Also 2 altitude points = 1 FF point

Hi Sarge1 and welcome to AFF.

From 1 April 2009 I think the Qantas frequent flyer program is out of the question.

Your best bet may be to join the Singapore Aitlines Kris Flyer frequent flyer program. It is free to join and from my understanding the 300,000 Altitude points will convert to 150,000 Kris Flyer miles.

An economy award booking from the east coast of Australia to Japan requires 80,000 Kris Flyer miles + taxes and surcharges, and if you are able to book it online you should get a 15% discount so in reality only require 68,000 Kris Flyer miles per person which is more than enough for 2 economy award seats. Travel will be via Singapore and the award should allow a stopover in either, possibly both, directions.

I would second JohnK's advice. Best option i can think of.
