FF milesage points

Hi

My 20 year old daughter returned from 5 months in Europe on 16 November (flying Qantas and British Airways) and went to join Qantas FF and get the points credited to her account, but was told that as the travel was completed more than 30 days ago she could not get the points for these flights. Does anyone know of any other FF points program she could join where she is still within the time limit? I'm told that United Airlines have a more generous 120 day leeway.

Hi Marg, Welcome to AFF!

It is true that mileage can only be claimed retrospectively for 30 days prior to joining date. (although there used to be a little leeway) Using United won't be any good as travel was on QF and BA which aren't FF programs with United. (United will credit travel on Star Alliance Carriers whereas BA & QF are Oneworld)

9.1.2 A Member may earn Points only in relation to:
(a) Eligible Flights taken after the Member's enrolment date and up to 30 days prior to that date; and
(b) eligible transactions (acquisition of goods or other transactions) entered into after the Member's enrolment date.

I would try and lodge a claim, and at least just for the last flights to credit would be a help and see what happens.

Hi Margaret, welcome to AFF.

As littl_flyer posted, with Qantas it's 30 days.

You daughter would only be able to post the points to a oneworld carrier, however going by This Post from FlyerTalk she may be out of luck. BA and LAN allow for more than 30 days, but for their respective flights only.

Thank you for your replies. Yes sadly we've missed out - we tried to join the BA Executive Club but it won't accept membership from Australia and instead refers you to QFF which as we know cuts out after 30 days. My other daughter flew to the US yesterday so we made sure she joined the United Airlines Mileage Plus!

If you really want to join BA Executive Club and had a really good friend in England who wouldn't mind, maybe your daughter could join at their address.

Its just a thought that I had that you may wish to consider.

Thank you for the suggestion - yes actually she has a couple of good friends in the UK who probably wouldn't mind using their address. At least she can claim points for the return fare. Thanks again!
