I've booked a flight MEL-LAX-JFK-LAX-MEL, and when I login to the Delta website (for the US domestic flights), they have different fare classes.

The fare was booked as O class (Premium Saver) via VA, however one of the US flights is Delta Comfort+ (W) and the other is Main Cabin (Y).

Both aircraft are the same - B767-300.. any idea why I'm in different classes for the two journeys?

Also they mention for immigration/TSA/etc purposes, ensure the name on the itinerary matches your passport exactly... looks like Virgin's booking system has sent my name as 'DEONMR xx_x' instead of 'MR DEON xx_x'... should I try to get in touch with Delta to have this fixed? Or will they understand that Mr isn't actually part of my first name?

Was there any change in schedule to this flight ? If the flight schedule was changed because of any change from the airlines then the default fare class is Y.

It will be fine in my experience but again to travel with peace of mind , pull up your ticket on delta website and confirm it is correctly noted. Also at port of entry , they don't seem to ask for your details on boarding pass as far as I remember ( travelled MEL-LAX-SFO-LAX-MEL last month). Also I got my DL boarding passes only after clearing immigration/customs .

Yes - the flight time changed a tiny bit from 11:15AM to 11:19AM, I got an email about it the other day. Does this mean I have to sit in Y now, because they moved the flight 4 minutes?

Ah of course, I'll still be a 'Virgin' passenger when I first arrive in the states so immigration probably won't even see the Delta boarding passes anyway, thanks :)

An incorrect name would still be a problem when entering TSA security at LAX , prior to boarding the LAX-JFK flight. However, adding your title MR as a suffix on your first name seems to be reasonably common - it happens to me as well on US flights and I've never had an issue with TSA. Their systems must be able to filter this back out when doing name comparisons.

That's actually pretty normal for your title to be at the end of your first name. Nothing to worry about, seen it heaps of times.

I'd probably call and check - Delta appear to have a few different seating configs on their 767's including on where Row 21 is 'Delta Comfort' and where it is 'Main Cabin.

If they did an equipment change perhaps you seat was kept the same but become a different cabin. Whilst the seats are mostly the same you want to ensure you are in Delta Comfort as you get additional service and legroom.

@Deon was the original booking in W or S class?

That's a serious differing for a JFK-LAX flight.

Original booking was via VA in O class (Premium Economy, paid cash). Not sure which of Delta's classes this translates to

Here is what the aircraft looks like when I go to seat selection. Appears to be five rows of Delta Comfort - not sure why I can't select them

Spoke to Delta, they told me to call Virgin as the fare was booked in Y and any changes need to be made by VA, however they do have plenty of availability in W

Spoke to Virgin, they replicated by booking online and advised that a message is shown saying "Due to availability, seating for JFK-LAX will be in Economy cabin" - despite Delta advising me they had availability

Perhaps the 'availability' the Delta rep was describing doesn't extend to codeshare? Or VA only have x seats and those are already booked?

@Deon, do you have the original e-ticket? (Before the schedule change.) That should indicate the by sector booking class.

They will definitely understand, no need to contact Delta. It’s pretty normal that names are even switched. Plus you can have 3 letter wrong and still be ok.

With a VA Premium Economy fare, the domestic US flights will always be eligible for Delta Comfort (W Class). The fare will price in either Delta Comfort or Main Cabin, so depending on how it was booked originally, it might have always been in Y. If that is the case, then you may not be able to change it without a fee as it was always that way (regardless of the fact that you could have had W).

Was it booked online? The systems sometimes can’t tell the difference (as there is no difference in price and Delta Comfort isn’t really Premium Economy), so it can easily happen. If a human builds the fare, then it shouldn’t arise as they will know what fare classes to build together on each airline.

@Deon , can you look your booking up on www.tripcase.com ?

Check 'Documents' - with the schedule change you may see more than one e-ticket. Check the original to see what it may indicate under fare class.

Other than that, were you able to allocate seats on the DL flights originally?

Can't see anything under Documents:

It says 'Economy', the others say 'Premium Economy' :(

Looks like I might be out of luck! Does seem strange though
