Fantastic Alaska Airline miles deal on again

Not sure what you mean by "US address" in quotes. I have a Canadian bank account (with a Canadian address attached - not mine, and I declared that to the bank) with a debit card issued against it and that worked, as it should. I couldn't get a Canadian cc without residency even though the bank account has a Canadian address on it.

BTW I also found out that Canadian shops don't issue store debit cards - only store credit cards.

Slight correction. US, Canadian or Mexican credit or Visa/MasterCard associated debit cards, which have a US, Canadian or Mexican mailing address. And if a friend purchases points for you, a trap is that there is a limit to the number of points abled to be transferred. A friend can't purchase points with their US card and your Alaska Miles number.

Just wondering why you say this as I believe members have had friend's purchase miles for other member's accounts, and haven't used the gifting method that would equally works as well.

Not sure if I'm following you, sorry. Do you mean I (for instance) would use my Canadian debit (or cc if I had one) card but put in your Alaskan Miles account number using the regular 'buy miles' way? My card would be charged but your Alaskan account would receive the points? Never tried it. But its exactly the same cost (I think) as the 'gifting miles' way except the latter is explicitly set up for buying miles for some-one else.

If both methods work, great.

Sorry Rooflyer that is was I meant. I've been posting on the run so not prob a little unclear. A few on here had their American friend"s purchase miles into their accounts. Gifting would work as well of course but the buyer would require an account too of course.

Commonly used for other types of US purchases, is to enter a US address using your Australian address details. When it comes to zip code, add a zero before or after your real postcode and enter the corresponding location for that zip code.
ie Carlton, VIC is 3053. 03053 is Londonderry, NH.

vitagen, Limewood - how did you guys do your original purchases? Like this method I'm mentioning?

My miles were bought before the exclusion came into effects.

With an Oz CC and address

Since then I am not aware of any reports of success on AFF.

Yes me too in Dec offer well before the March 1st cutoff date.

I see a max of 100K AS miles can be gifted I guess from one person, what if I had 2 friends in USA do 100k each?.

Great to see the AS miles deal is back to normal, can buy again with OZ CC's.

Limewood - have you received a denial from AS yet? Or did you see it posted someone that you're able to buy with OZ cc again?

Was posted on point hacks last week that all is well again buying AS miles no matter where you are.

Be sitting in ours tomorrow...

How did it all go?

Did you use the confirmation code for Cathay online check in? AS were a little unsure if I could check in online with the confirmation code or if CX were going to email me a e-ticket number. 2

Used the AS code to check in, all worked so well. Currently Mrs. Lime and self have been HKG lounge hopping! now at Pier 1st having last drinks before boarding back to CNS?

Limewood (& others with successful AS bookings on CX)

I could check in on CX using the code generated by the AS booking.

Seat selection is possible but when I select 'print e-ticket', there is no response.

?? Par for the course

Or, should I be worried ?

***

My preferred date for the next leg showed zilch so I just have to watch & wait & hope for the best.

Worst case: cancel > 60 days before departure date to get points & taxes back.

We didn't try to print e-tickets just selected CX seats on line and rocket up to the desk and checked in, all went fine.

Thanks mate! 5 more weeks and I'm off to Japan, little bit nervous considering I was only charged 35,000 miles for MEL > KIX in Y and NRT > MEL in J with CX.

Hey guys, new to FFPs. Flying from SYD-LAX-JFK on O. Would it be more advantageous to just claim the miles back with AS rather than QFF?
