Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I rang their customer support this morning about the issue, they have very recently (in the last few days or week) changed the ability to purchase points with the bonus. They now limit it to US, Canadian and he thought Mexico credit card holders (where the billing address for the cc is the same as address for the points purchase). Fraud problems were 'apparently' a reason for limiting the availability. Looks like you got in just in time Limewood.

That's unfortunate, very happy I got my miles purchased and AS charged me 1/3 of the actual amount :p

So has anyone had paypal with linked card knocked back? My account finally came through for purchase. I have attempted a purchase via paypal. seemed to go through but I guess ill have to see.

Tried to buy some miles yesterday and got the confirmation screen + called Amex to confirm charges. Unfortunately this morning got the same emails as a few others saying couldn't confirm cc details etc. Despite the email the funds are all still on hold on the Amex so I called Alaska to see what was happening. Spoke to a 'senior analyst' after getting transferred from customer support - he advised that due to 'fraud' only US, Canada & Mexico cc holders same as wonky1's convo. However after further discussion he also said that many people 'internationally' were using the program not how it was intended (as a loyalty program for frequent AS flyers) and AS wanted to stop this. He also mentioned that many 'points brokers' were abusing the system getting cheap partner travel instead of purchasing tickets.

Do the credit card details and billing address need to match the Alaska miles account? I might be able to 'rent' a friend's US card as Roo Flyer suggested. Certainly not smooth sailing

I'm sure we can work around the restrictions even if have to use a VPN so think you are in the US.

However why don't they just introduce an annual limit on purchased miles like every other program? Even without the bonus offer it is a great deal for J fares.

And you can credit miles from Qantas fights to the program so it is a valid options for Aussies so they should let us buy miles on the same terms as US people.

It's all the attention on 'bargain' websites and blogs that give easy step by step guides on bargain flights in business class to the USA etc that any idiot can read that has killed it for the rest.

I had an issue with my points going through and processing to my account. Was speaking to points.com who had to speak to their RISK team to ensure it wasn't fraud and then I had to speak to Alaska's customer service team to get the points released as well and confirm manually it wasn't fraud because of the large purchase.

It took 5 days and meanwhile I was hoping the CX flights were still available :0

I never had an issue with buying the miles though....

Hopefully it hasn't changed whereby only available to US/canada/Mexico!!!
Was very lucky to get our flights to Perth - LA return booked then!!
I won't put on here how many of us are going but it's more than 2!!

Have tried PayPal and received the confirmation screen, no points or email yet so shall wait and see if it takes a while. Nothing gone through my Paypal account as yet

Is it PayPal linked to your Australian credit card, or via direct funds transfer from your PayPal account?

Paypal has a "feature" whereby you can turn on that you must accept/approve all international transfers/payments.

If the funds haven't come out yet I am betting AS has this turned on so it will be interesting to see if they accept the payment or not.

How many points are you trying to buy?

Go to points.com with their online chat (available after 11pm WST) and get then to see if they can speak to their RISk team to verify the points purchase is legit.

You will also need to speak to someone in Customer Service 10am - 5pm Pacific time to also verify the points purchase is legit.

I did all this about 2 weeks ago though so if they have changed it post 1st March it may be different.

It took 5 days for all my points to clear. The money sat in pending on my credit card until Alaska verified and manually pushed the points through which after speaking to customer service it took 2 hours (midnight on the phone and 2:30am they were visible in my account)

Good Luck!!!

Got the dreaded email. So pay pal was a no go. Cant believe I missed out on the purchase by a week due to the change in their policy. :(

Hoe about using the Aus post load and go credit card??? You can add your own billing address on this one.

Link to how to do it it the SMH below....

Need a US credit card? Try the post office

Sounds like it might work, unless the points.com system looks at the card issuer, not just billing address.

My own solution is, since I'm in Canada right now, go into a bank, open an account (can do that OK) and get a bank debit card on the visa system. Went in today and gave them the scenario - was fully open about NOT 'working' here (I'm here on business) nor having a residential address. OK, they said - I can use a local work mate's home address and the work address of the client. For employment, they say I could even put 'unemployed' - I'm using my own cash with the debit card, so they don't care.

The AS site does have an option for "Visa debit", so I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Me too, am going to try loading PayPal with cash . Will most likely not work, but will see

Already tried that (see post #131) - their PayPal option is only via credit card linked to PP account, not the cash option.
