He was sat in front of me in J on a SYD-ADL (IIRC) segment a few years ago, and I think even displaced my seat selection in the process, so mustn’t have been very consistent on that one!

Still, she’s likely aware of the optics, given how little it matters for a 1.5hr flight (even if that 1.5hr flight was a 1hr flight on the exact same aircraft 20yrs ago ).

It may have been a bit more than 20 years ago, but SYD to MEL from departing the gate to arrival at the destination gate was once allowed 75 minutes southbound and 70 minutes northbound for Ansett and TAA.

Today although it varies, typical times start to stop for JQd, QFd and VAd are 95 minutes southbound and 85 minutes northbound.

Yeah … I’ve been working for the same company for 22yrs now, and probably about 18yrs ago we were much smaller & they actually put unwashed developers like me in front of customers … and SYD-MEL trip to put me in front of customers that I recall was under an hour from push-back to everyone getting up and scrabbling for their carry-on.

Knowing that different cars I’ve had have different optimal speeds for fuel economy … the prior one did it’s best at ~95km/h, the current one is best at ~115km/h, I’m not super-surprised that aircraft can use a tad less fuel if they fly at a speed that gets them to Melbourne 20 minutes later. Especially when they’re pretty much all the exact same aircraft, 737-800’s!

Tony Abbott on QF434 MEL-SYD this morning, first row of economy (6A) on the 321XLR. Got a personal welcome from the CSM, and the crew repeatedly addressed him as Mr Abbott quite loudly - wouldn't have realised otherwise!

He spent most of the flight reading what I'm sure is a personal favourite - the Australian.

Not exactly flying or lounging, but I found myself rooming next to John Paul Jones out of Led Zeppelin at a mandolin retreat in Umbria two years ago.
He'd flown directly from Gatwick to Perugia on BA I think.
Nice fellow, dedicated musician and family man, still working at age 78 (then, would be 80 now, still married to same woman since before LZ)

Well it is not someone I met in the lounge but it is somewhat flying/ qantas related and I am showing my age. It is not a fake photo and yes the chap in the middle is a golfer that us old-timers remember. For those who know me, I am not the one in shorts, we hassled him for showing up to an international sponsored event in shorts and then started on my other mate (right of center) for not having the correct shoe colour. The bloke next to me (also a friend) did try to negotiate seats on the private jet but failed. Turns out they knew each other as Allan and Greg had played together in their younger days and in the US open. Allan said Greg went on to make millions, I joined the ARA and met you rabble.

We placed second and the bloke next to me (Allan) mentioned we would have most likely won if it wasn't for you '3 idiots' trying to out drive or get inside Greg's approach shots.

Amazing what photos you find when you have a general clean out.
