Have come across quite a few famous people in my travel:

1. Ireland some years ago now - Saw Harry Secombe at a castle in County Donegal - the producer told us to be quiet as they were actually recording a show !

2. Ran into Jane Fonda shopping in Santa Monica - she looked fabulous and she's really tiny ! I noticed her hand bag first - beautiful red Chanel !

3. In Hawaii in April this year - shared the beach at the Grand Wailea (now that's a fabulous holiday destination) with 'Mr Big' (Chris Noth) from 'Sex in the City' - all very cool and casual on the beach with female friend and small child. Security very unobtrusive but there keeping an eye on things.

4. Youngest daughter shared plane to Perth last year with Melbourne Victory soccer team - all great guys who were happy to talk to the kids and sign autographs etc. Grandma reported they had great manners.

5. Hotel in Baden Baden, Germany - guy in the next room was neighbour from home town ! What's the chance of that !

6. Was travelling business class couple of years ago to Sydney from Melbourne - bit of a buzz happening around the lounge area - turns out the group 'Jet' were travelling with us - back in Y though !

7. Shopping at Chadstone in Melbourne with youngest daughter - she spotted Natalie Bassingthwaite who very kindly smiled and waved hello to her - nice!

Travelling again next week with youngest daughter - who will we run into ???

Who?

I thought this thread was about famous people.:p

Please note based in Perth, WA = AFL:)

In the early 80's had quite a few brushes with celebs. On one occasion was staying in Hong Kong at the Regent with wife, son and mother-in-law.worked out a suite would be much cheaper than 2 rooms so duly booked suite.Unfortunately all the junior suites were booked when we arrived so had to make do with a 6 room suite with our own butler. On last morning we were eating breakfast downstairs when Shirley Bassey was seated next to us.The Maitre'd told her room xx_ was not ready yet-yes it was the room we were in and she had just flown in from London but i am ashamed to admit we did take a lot longer than we planned.
Then staying at the old Sheraton in Alice Springs and was next door to Meryl Streep.Toblerone and white wine are a good mix for putting on weight for a movie role.
Politicians-way too many in my political days. But had lunch with the US ambassador in 1971 and the Russian ambassador in 1983.

Ah no worries.

The Footy us SYDsiders talk about is the one where they don't wear skirts that's based out of Melbourne! OK... don't get me started on soccer then! :D

Definitely "Australian Idle"
LOL! :D I saw some idle Idols last month - Jessica Mauboy in the QP and then a few minutes later noticed Guy Sebastian sitting in the row behind me on my QF MEL-SYD flight.

Idols are everywhere. My teenage daughter goes to school with one of the current bunch.

Oh you mean that game where they all sniff each others butts:shock: , that has that Fatty guy on it.

Much to Victorians disgust, AFL is now Australian, making it a national game.

Those I remember seeing:
  • ****o from Australian Idol in PER QP, he looks fatter in real life!
  • One of the contestants from Australian Idol, no idea what his name was but we shared a cab from Kings Cross to SYD.
  • The Who at SYD QC. We were discussing who they might be, then one of the guys I was travelling with opened the paper and they were in it.
  • Damian Marley at PER, he had a lot of luggage.

Have been on the same flight with many well known personalities, but in 1982 on a flight from JFK to LAS sat next to Neil Sedaka. Now, there is a true down to earth genuine person, who was not a big head. When the FA approached him to sign something for a young girl in Y he walked back to her seat and spoke with her for a while, and that really made her day. Not too many people like that around.

My favorite brush with fame was meeting Sandra Bullock in the Van Gogh room at the Musee D'Orsay in Paris in 1998.

Every other brush with celebrity pales into insignificance compared to Sandra.

So all I need to do is get my Dad to leave me at a train station, get it reported widely, then everyone of you who flys with me can say you have flown with someone famous.

On the otherhand I can just post flight numbers and dates for all my flights this year, and any that match yours, you have flown with famous ole me:p

Reggie, i just have this image of what you may look like and i am sure its nothing like what you really do look like but it would be funny to meet you on a flight some day.

Who is this pumpkin kid anyway ? i am not in Oz at the moment but and all i can say is it must be a really slow news week !

Myself, not flown with just about anybody important that i know of, flying in whY most of the time has that effect.

But i did one day spend 12 hours SIN-LHR with one of our engineers from work sitting right beside him and only on decent did we realise we both worked for the same company ! (about 1300 people on our site), and also another person down the back, did not even recognise either of them.
Rather funny moment for us both.

Most certainly not a slow news week. A very sad story

To sum it up:
- Pumpkin and her Father flew to Melbourne where Pumpkin was dumped at a Melbourne train station. The Father has now fled to the US and the police are currently looking for him up there
- Pumpkins' mother was murderd and left in the boot of a car in Auckland where she lived. The police spent a week or so trying to find the body, which was in the car right outside her house
-Father wanted in connection with his wifes murder
-Pumpkin has just being reunited with her grandmother today

I sat next to Scarlett Johansson a couple of months ago, from New York to Paris. I exchanged a few pleasantries, but didn't manage to get a date, I wish I had the courage to ask, you just never know.

Sat next to Tom Brady the New England Patriots qaurter back last week, he's a real big deal in Boston, all the ladies swoon when they hear his name.

Sam Neil flying from Prague to Budapest a few months back.

I think most of the time I just don't know who they are as I don't watch TV.

A few weeks ago on a very busy Thursday afternoon in CBR we left the crowded QP and joined the long line (which had doubled around) for QF958 to BNE. There were problems with the gate display units, so it wasn't clear at which gate the BNE flight was leaving from. Anyway, Ian Macfarlane MP (Minister for Industry now I think) came out of the CL and said to someone at the front of the line, in his loud and 'unique' voice, "is this the Brisbane line?".

I was adjacent to him at the end of the line (remember, it had doubled around) and politely asked: "Minister, you wouldn't be jumping the queue would you? Particularly in an election year!" "Of course not", was his reply as he stepped into line behind me. We had a bit of a chat and after we boarded our 737 he stopped to sit in row 2. I said "Minister, I'm sitting back in row 24. Are you interested in trading seats for a vote?". "We're not that desperate" he replied.

If you asked him today, do you think his answer may be any different?:D

Mmm 1 vote for a business class seat, and I sit in economy. I think thats worse redemption rate than QFF. I'm with the minister.

I'm the tall, extremely good looking guy with all the young girls hanging around. I never recline, I have a prdefernce for the window seat, and never disturb my neighbout ot get up. I wait for them to get up and then take the opportunity. I never use the seat in fron to leverage myslef in and out of the seat. I alwasy close my shades to allow those watvhig the movie to have a glare free view. I only take my selection of paper once the remainder of cabin has had their choice. I am always ready to sit in my seat when I board (no deciding that the aisle is the appropriate place to take off my jacket and get my stuff out of my bag whilst holding up the remaining 90% of pax).

Put simply you will easily pick me, I am the one with the Halo that is slowly slipping to around my neck. I hope this helps you Evan.
