Hi, I had a quick look but could not find a thread covering this question.

When exactly (in real life) does family pooling take effect from. It says that pooling will happen based on the settings in effect when the flight was booked, but at other places it says that cancelling family pooling will immediatetly stop pooling.

So if i book a flight with family pooling turned on to my partner, but cancel family pooling before i go on the flight, who get the points/SCs. Also, if i take a flight with family pooling turned on then take another flight the same day but turn it off between flights, will the SC/points go to the people I want it to? Also if i book a flight with no family pooling turned on, but turn on family pooling before i go on the flight where do the points/SC go??

I think the theoretical answer is to the person who was the beneficiary of the pooling at the time the flight was booked, but I'm not sure if that works in practice.

thx

It is effective when the flight is flown.

Emails are sent to all parties involved when changes are made so you would have an audit trail, but changing recipients etc. before the points/SC's have credited would almost certainly require manual intervention.

Thx Serfty,

that's really the answer that I expected (and hoped for) - but I wanted to be sure that they didnt do it based on the situation when the flight was booked (as they state on their website).

thx

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agree with Serfty here.

Just as a point of difference re: family pooling on Shop & Earn, I've found recently (after switching pooling to my partner in November, then back to myself once the reward SC promo hit in January) that the points earned in that Nov-Jan period still credit to my partners account when they finally make it through shopandearn's laborious pending process. No big issue, but did surprise me slightly.

Points go to the person who was pooled to at the time of transaction. So it correctly went your partner's way.

Curious now with the sector base. Could you switch pooling within transit?
You may have an issue there as it doesn't show the time the pooling switch was made, just the date. Maybe they see more details.
but I almost got caught out changing pooling two days before a return flight from USa. It registered as the Australian date as the date of pooling, despite the fact that it was -1 day in the USA.

The emails certain only highlight the date:

"All Velocity Points and Status Credits earned for activity from <date> will be allocated to your Account. "

However, the emails are immediate and have a time stamp as well.

Personally I would be not trying to change these thing mid travel - too much chance of something not going how you would want and the chase up could be an absolute pain.
