Has anyone noticed that HSBC has quietly, and with no warning or announcement that I can see, quietly cut the ability to earn Virgin Velocity points on the HSBC Premier Card.
This used to have a great earn rate, and I normally use it once a year for a business points redemption to the UK.
Went in this week to redeem my points - and the Velocity option has quietly disappeared. SQ is of course still there and at a good rate too. But no Virgin, which is very sad.
Grrr...

It's still listed on the Velocity website:

Agh! My bad, has been missing for a few days, but back for me now too.
Sorry, must just have ben a glitch, and hopefully not a precident for an enhancement.

The bigger question is what will happen to all the HSBC cards after the sale of the HSBC Australia retail banking arm goes through - apparently Citi have been appointed to advise on the sale (link is subscriber only):

I too am very concerned about the possible demise of the HSBC Star Alliance Visa card. It has been my primary card for SQ miles and also of course the terriifc Gold Status benefit across all Sar Alliance airlines. I have been in Business Class lounges whilst flying Economy Class via this benefit in lounges for Austrian Airlines, Egypt Air, United Airlines across the USA, and will again soon use the lounges as an Economy passenger in Avianca Ailrine lounges in Chile and Ecuador, which entail some long stop-overs between connecting flights. Thank you RBA!
