Fake QP complimentary invitations appearing on eBay

Emailed the buyer who left feedback to let them know they have purchased duds. Had a live chat with Ebay about these, no help at all.

*someone* else may have recently also contacted Ebay support to report these as non-valid passes...

It is amazing the gall some people have...

Well sell them to someone who has a lot less morals than yourself, and let them do the dirty work with conning people...

I think I have multiple books of those passes as well in storage, so perhaps I am sitting on a fortune?:rolleyes:
I was considering putting them up for sale on eBay with a Buy-It-Now price of $0.01 and postage of $0.99 with enough details about how useless they are for obtaining lounge access that anyone else trying to sell a similar item will have difficulty.

But in the end I could not be bothered with the effort of addressing envelopes and posting them.

Yeah, that would be fun, although I think the people who would follow your advice are the ones at the top of the gene pool - not at much lower levels...

Seller is no longer a registered user, buyer is going through paypal
to try and get the dollars back.

There have been several up in the past few days I have reported. Perhaps others here have too, and eBay have acted on it and removed them (as they should be).

Aww, what a shame the user is no longer registered. I wonder which *nasty* people reported them for fraud... ;)

People like that seller really peeve me off. The writeup for the auction was complete fantasy, and it's sad to see people paying $99 for something that Qantas is likely to reject at the door. Not really a good way to start a holiday.

As a laugh, a (well perhaps) genuine QP pass sold for about $25 recently, and a two pack of passes sold for about $100.
I think a fair price is somewhere between $30-$40 per pass based on PriorityPass and LoungePass prices.

It does amaze me what they are worth - although I still think of the tool who resold a pass I gifted to them for profit on Ebay, One day I'll actually post the screenshot of the auction so that everyone knows who it was - but as they don't seem to post here frequently these days, I will resist that for a while.
I am eagerly awaiting you to post the person's handle

Do we know for a fact they are useless? Has anyone tried using them recently? After all they do not have an expiry date although I have not see what is written on the back of the pass.

So are you saying I should not try to sell my 2 complimentary QC passes on ebay as I am committing fraud? :p I wonder who on AFF is going to report me to eBay? ;)

Current Ebay prices are around 50 dollars. I think this is about right, considering a day pass to an AA lounge costs even more.

I can only go by the letter I got years ago which said that the passes were no longer valid. Anyway, they clearly state "Member's Guest Pass", which means that they should be presented with a member sponsoring you. Perhaps some new recruits to Qantas don't know about the passes and think they are valid - although you would expect that it would be part of their training.

Nah, if they are legit passes, then it isn't fraud... Note that Qantas (or someone) used to get most of the ex-AU auctions canned. Seems that they are being allowed now.

Yes, we know they are useless. Any Qantas Club member can now take a guest into the lounge any time they have access themselves, meaning there is no need for the old Member's Guest cards any more. The cards were needed when each member only had 5 (or was it 10??) per year.

And they certainly have never been able to be used for AA lounges or without a member as stated in the auction description.

The only value they hold today is as memorabilia for a collector.

Expensive memorabilia!

Interesting that we don't hear of stories (whether through negative feedback on eBay or posting on sites like AFF/Flyertalk) where people have bought these passes and then been refused entry to the Qantas Lounge.

I think its often a case of eBay buyers having already left feedback when the passes arrived in the mail, and then they cannot leave more feedback later when they have actually tried to use them.

But its been a while since we have seen the old Member's Guest passes auctioned.

The other day I shredded the book of 2005 exp passes. Maybe I should have sold them instead.

Does anyone want a set of shredded passes :?: (Best offer :rolleyes:)

That's outrageous! What a bl...y cheek! I'd be inclined to send them a bill. Outing them here is the least they deserve.
