Facebook Button

Thanks Sam I was getting ready to stop drinking and head to the doctor as I could not see the button anymore.

I view in Alt Mode so that explains it.

The normal “PC Mode” is so weird, odd colours.

No need to stop drinking :D

So maybe a job for Adblock Plus which can block the access to FB before it even leaves the browser.

Yeah, I've added xwww.facebook.com/plugins/* (x is only there to stop it displaying as a URL BTW) to my ABP blocklist. Not a fan of FB, nor do I like the constant nagging from so many websites (that is right in my face) that I should be using it.

Funny how there a lot of IT people who are not fans of facebook, myself included.

Because of all the complaints after the major upgrade in March, our designer modified the "PC Mode" template to make it better resemble the original "look and feel". Most users prefer this.

The "Alternative" template (which was the "PC Mode" template after the upgrade) is now no longer being updated. We will keep it as an option for GOLD members for the time being. But there will be a time when it becomes unoperable and will then be deleted....

Ahh, the button appears on “PC Mode”, but not the “Alternative PC Mode” that matches the sites official colours more faithfully. I see there’s also a Twitter button at the bottom of the “PC Mode” theme, but not on the “Alternative” theme. There might also be other things missing that I’m not seeing, but I do like the original look and feel with blues and reds more.

Oh I didn’t realise this, I thought it was preferred. I’ll switch over to the mixed “defualt” view :p

Weird... isn't it. I think it is because all IT people are unsociable nerds and have no friends and no social life. Hence no need for FB. ;)

Or maybe it's just because they have a better understanding of what Facebook is, why it's insecure, and why we shouldn't be plastering our life there.

I think its option 2, option 1 is disproved by this board alone ;)

In my case it's a little of both :) I felt no need to join Facebook but social networking sites are a major concern to organisations like my employer. I've seen work colleagues give away some some amazingly stupid information on such sites. We cant stop them accessing Facebook at home so we need to know what we're talking about when advising on privacy settings etc.

Richard.

I would say it’s the other way, I have Facebook but most of my privacy settings are at the max, and I do use a “limited profile” for some people. If you’re not a Facebook friend of mine, what personal information can you get from my profile? If there’s a hold in my shield, I’d like to know :D

Then again, there’s a pretty good bio on my website ;)

If you have to ask that Sam then I suspect that you'll never know

Haha.
