Gday,
Just booked a new zealand holiday
MEL - SYD (J)
SYD - Queenstown (J)
Queenstown - AKL (Q)
AKL - MEL (J)

My flight from AKL to MEL (QF26 on Jan 25) is on a 747-400....What are my chances of upgrading to First, It's prolly not worth it for 4 hours, but the flight is at the crack of dawn and I like my rest. The Qantas website doesn't let me. Im only QFF Silver..... If I ring up?

Also anybody know the deal with Queenstown to AKL....is there any J or is it all just cattle class.

Thanks

No chance of an upgrade since QF25/26 is sold as a 2-class service. Even though some days it is operated by a 3-class configured aircraft, its still sold and operated as 2-class.

Hi theworld2. Welcome to AFF.

Qantas doesn't sell the F class cabin on QF25/26. Normally this flight is on a 2 class plane (ie the "nose" section where the F class seats are contains normal business seats)

However, it can happen that Qantas has to substitute a 3 class plane onto the route instead of a 2 class plane. If this occurs, then passengers in the front rows may be given F seats, but still with normal Business catering and service. Have a look at the seat maps on the Qantas site for an idea of how the various 747-400's are configured.

Regarding NZ domestic flights, there are no Business seats sold that I am aware of. However, similar to the case above, AirNZ and Qantas do have planes which are also used for International travel rather than just domestic NZ travel. These have Business seats in the first few rows. So if you are in the first few rows of your flight and are lucky, you could get a Business seat. Note with Qantas (NZ domestic) that the Business seats are pretty average but provide more legroom and are only 2x2, not 3x3.

Did pretty much the same flights in Jul this year and ZQN-AKL was a single service (econ) 737-something with def no bus seats. pretty shoddy service from JetConnect too. 2 crackers and cheese for around a 2 hr flight and only tea & coffee. Made up for it in the AKL QP though!

As posted, there is no First class on any of your flights.

If you wished to upgrade to Business class on the QF25 flight and "... The Qantas website doesn't let ..." you then you are probably booked on a deep discount ticket (in N, O or Q class) and these are ineligible for upgrading.

There is not even any Business class on the AKL/ZQN flights - the service is pretty much as Mal & turbo posted. (Mind you, AirNZ on this route you get even less.)

Oh, BTW, Welcome to AFF! :D

I was lucky enough to get 4A on a 3 class config, when flying on a J ticket MEL-AKL
