Just wanted some opinions on the best seats for me and the mrs travelling with QF in F.

Personally I would like a window seat but I'm open to suggestions.

If you really want to sit 'together' then it's 2,3 or 4 E & F on the 744, no window. On the A380 the best you can do is take F & K but they are separated by the aisle, but one of you will have a window. There isn't really any couples seating.

On the QF 744, I would he heading for 3EF. Row is still too far apart for talking during the flight. BA's layout has the row 1 seats a little closer, but still not close enough for conversation.

I avoid row 2 since the overhead locker space is only accessible by standing in the seat area of 2E or 2F, which means you may have 2A/2K passenger (or even 1A or 1K passenger) standing over you trying to balance a carry-on bag while you are sitting, eating, sleeping etc. Row 4 is ok. But row 3 has the widest aisle between 3A 3E and 3F 3K.

If you're after a window seat, try 4A & E or 4F & K on the 744. That way one of you will get the window seat, the gap between you isn't too great to prevent the occasional conversation and there really isn't all that much foot traffic in F for you to have too many issues talking across the aisle.

Don't forget you can always use the footrest seat at the end of the bed to sit opposite each other for instance during dinner if you want to have a more in-depth conversation - there's a seatbelt on that seat as well.

This works even better on the A380 as the footrest seat is even larger.

After dinner on most flights my wife either sleeps or watches movies and I try to get some work done, so we may as well be on different aircraft for most of the trip anyway.

If its A380, I'd suggest taking two windows in sequence (eg. 1A, 2A or whatever is available)

less traffic down the A side as its just 5 seats

and as its been said there's no real couple seats, so being on the right with two next door isn't really a help in my opinion....

+1 for taking two windows, one row apart, on the 380. At least that way you can pop your head over or easily get up to sit together. The First Host at LHR tried to talk me into this configuration when I checked in but I insisted on the traditional across the row seating (row 3). She was right and I was wrong. Because of the configuration of the suites you can't talk and you have to crane your neck just to see each other. To sit with your partner you would need to walk all the way to the front (or back) of First, go around and then walk down their aisle.

Thanks for the input.

The aircraft is a B747 to JNB. Unless QF make a substitution I will miss out on the A380.

Hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question but do you get PJs on the day flights in F? They certainly would be more comfortable to sit & sleep in vs normal clothes.

Possibly not - certainly on QF107 on the LAX-JFK sector they don't offer the PJs, but the flight is only 5 hours anyway.

They should still provide them upon request though - I've asked for a set on that LAX-JFK sector one time when I hadn't just come through from SYD and they had no problems supplying a pair plus amenities kit.

I've flown in F from LHR-HKG and from LHR-SIN, both flights leaving pretty close to midday, and I've been provided with PJs on those flights. Unless your flight leaves first thing in the morning I'd say that you'll probably get them.

Yes I believe you will. In the past 2 years every QF long haul flight I have been on in J and F they have handed out PJ's irrespective of time of day. But that may not be everyones experience.

Funny though, in reference to another thread, everyone thinks it's ok to loll around F in airline PJ's but some object to a tracksuit :p:lol:
