I happened to stumble upon these fares, which are the cheapest I've ever seen for EY SE Asia-Europe return in business class. Lots of availability and can easily be booked on the Etihad website. Basic J, so pay for seats, lounge access (if you need them), Personally, I wouldn't bother, as a Priority Pass would be a better option.

Here's an example:

I just found the same with Etihad outbound Manila with return to Singapore. My question now is, if the flight out of Manila departs at 5.20am, would flying in the previous evening at 8.30pm with Qantas be wise? I have read here that when you fly out of Aisa to take advantage of the J flights, to give yourself a day's grace in case of delays.

Well consider this, if for some reason something happened to the QF flight, can you still get to MNL in time on alternates. If the answer is no then I'd make sure you have solid TI to cover it.

Sounds like Etihad have abandoned their own and “wet” leased
Etihad have been using Wamos for over a year now, similar issues to NZ where aircraft availability is an issue, although in their case it’s a lack of new deliveries. Interestingly an ex MH A380 recently flew to AUH for work, so maybe they are looking at that option, or global have their second bird yet no set routes!

Interesting .... I've been keeping an eye out for ex-CGK flights to Europe (having a points booking into CGK). But that is very much worth investigating.

Price increases about $400 making it a double open jaw (eg MNL-FCO-LIS-CGK) but only $100 MNL-FCO-MXP (or ATH or IST) -CGK.

It's worth noting that some Wamos 330's are actually quite OK, if you get the 1-2-1 business class configured aircraft (just check the rego and then Google it).

I flew one of these 1-2-1 configured Wamos birds when PR were using them, and it was perfectly fine. Etihad 777's and service aren't really much (if at all) better IMO.

Here's a useful link I've found to Flyertalk...

Ec-maj is seconded to EY at present and has 1 2 1 seating, currently inbound to MNL
