Hi,

To be an explorist you need 30 nights in the calendar year. I'm sitting on 26 and cancelled a booking a few week back which would have brought me to 29 (yes still one short). What are the odds of asking Hyatt to give me Explorist next year rather than the Discoverest (10 nights+). Has anybody had a similar experience.

I feel my chances are low and are going to call up (perhaps a few times), but wanted to gauge others experiences to see if I can draw upon "it has been done elsewhere".

Do you have any bookings for next year/

I know nothing about this program but come from the view that if you're offering something they may try to work with you.

Good point. I have 9 nights booked in May, but know they will be complimented by another 10 or so first half of the year....which clearly would not help in a discussion.

Just thinking, I do have Diamond Status with Hilton, that could be some leverage to sway choice one way or the other (granted that could work against me if they say believe I'd always prefer Hilton (Diamond) over Hyatt (Explorist) if it were a two way tussle.

For mine, the most useful benefit is the garanteed late check out. With that Explorist, being 2pm, is no different from Discoverist.

What I would do is join MGM Rewards and link the account with your Hyatt account.

The impicit status match would give MGM Gold for the next 13 months. After March, if you drop to Discoverist, reapply your MGM status to your WoH account and you'll be bumped back up to Explorist.

Thanks to the MGM (ex MLife) annual status match I’ve been able to retain Hyatt Explorist for several years despite staying well less than 30 nights per year. This is one of the sweetest loopholes out there in Hotel Loyalty land. Hyatt must be aware of it, so I’m surprised they haven’t Enhanced it yet.

How does Explorist compared to similar levels in other programs? ie HH Gold has traditionally been one of the sweet spots if you can’t make top tier.

I recently received an instant comp upgrade to “Explorist” until mid Aug via this promo.…

The article said you get Explorist after your 1st checkout but it was at the time of registering - so the 90 day timer to lock it in after 10 nights (or upgrade to Globalist after 20 nights) is already ticking…! 🤬

Mediocre recognition by way of room upgrades. And unlike Hilton Gold whereby some properties grant you club/lounge access, Hyatt Explorist does not IME.

Having held Hyatt Diamond for several years previously, the step down to Explorist is huge. In fact the only reason I still hold Explorist is due to the free MGM status matching, otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Thanks. That’s what I thought. I don’t use Hyatt much (historically they weren’t well represented in places I used to travel for work). But I do see lots of peeps here rave about benefits as “Globalist”.

The Diamond benefits and recognition are the best in the business as far chain hotels go, no doubting that. But Hyatt’s footprint is too narrow around the world compared to the other players.

Per my original post, I did not make the 30 nights for 2022. I logged into my account and lo and behold I went to Explorist, I don't know what but I'll take it - not that it did much for me per "Gold Member"s experiences mentioned above in my recent stays. In both of them I booked (using points) a suite with club access which effectively gave me Globalist privelidges.

No guaranteed 4PM check out would be the main difference (which I miss), at least Explorist gives 2pm.

As per @Gold Member's comment re MGM status, I suggest you match to MGM Rewards Gold. Do it again if you drop from Gold next February (before the end of that month).

I did that and this year, on March 1st soft landed to "Discoverist". I applied the MGM gold and went back to Explorist, expiring end of February 2025.

As an aside, one of the benefits of MGM Gold is no resort fees at their properties. That's a saving of at least USD35 per night in Vegas. (I have a couple of nights booked later this year for USD21 per night all up.)

I just logged back into my Hyatt account - I'm now back to Discoverist. :(

It was explorist before my post above. I think somebody at Hyatt saw my post and acted on it - anybody here work at Hyatt?

Yes, I sent a quick note to Hyatt corporate to alert them to your actions.

In all seriousness, when I rematched my MGM to Hyatt earlier this year my new Hyatt status showed Explorist. However, at some point later my Hyatt status was downgraded to Discoverist. I then rematched my status and voila, it’s back to Hyatt Explorist and with 2025 expiry.

In fact, a few months ago there was chatter amongst several Bloggers “in the know” that apparently Hyatt was well aware of this status matching loophole and would be cracking down on it mid year. So there could be a glitch, or more likely an inelegant but deliberate mechanism whereby Hyatt allows the status match but then downgrades you at a later date to work around the loophole. For the time being, it seems that rematching works and it grants you Hyatt Explorist status until 2025.
