We are travelling to HNL on the 26th June and the rest of my family all have US passports (as well as Australian). My son's US passport, who is under 16, expires beginning of December 2012 making it valid slightly less than 6 months and his Australian passport is fine. I like to use his US passport for entry into the US as it is easier, no visa and then his Australian back to Oz. My question is - will they still allow him into USA with less than 6 months validity on his US passport or should I just get him a visa on his Australian passport

Many thanks

I suspect, if the Australian version is any indication, that the US passport can be used to enter the US up to and including its date of expiry - it's only when being used to enter other countries its closeness to expiry becomes an issue, and won't apply to you coming back to Australia as you also have Australian passports.
