Expiring Emirates points, what to do?

I have 15,000 emirates points that are due to expire in a month.

A friend has flights booked on emirates through qantas. Is it possible to upgrade her flights with those points?

Any other suggestions on what to do with 15k points?

You are 1k short of a return Qantas domestic redemption less than 600 miles. Can you top up via AMEX?

Otherwise if you are desperate, there is easyjet credit, heathrow rewards etc.

What route and what fare class? Unless is is a high fare in a medium route (SYD-CHC) or other fares on shorter route (eg HKG-BKK, DXB-MCT) you probably won’t have enough points for the upgrade.

Just took at a look at the booking made through flight centre. There are 4 flights on it. 1 flight Paris to Dubai is Emirates metal, the other 3 are Qantas. Ticket number starts with 0815****** but unclear if this is the airlines or Flight Centre.

Irrespective of whether the ticket can be upgraded or not, need more miles than 15,000 for that sector. Mileage calculator here ...

081 means it has been ticketed by Qantas so not eligible for upgrade.

Would a little bit of cash and those points get me anywhere from MEL? The calculator is horrible for trying to figure that out.. its just random guessing..
