I booked a V Australia flight from Brisbane to coughet on 8th Jan. I chose a premium economy ticket because at the time business class was mostly empty, and thus my chances of getting an ODU were good.

Expertflyer is showing only 3 seats in Business class are taken. However when booking on the V Australia site, it says that for business "No Seats" are available. What is happening here?!??? Did they just cancel business class for the flight? :(

There is hardly anything available for sale, I would say its been oversold in Y with just full Y now available.

This is what I can see

Cabin class: J0 C0 D0 I0 W2 S0 R0 O0 Y2 B0 H0 K0 G0 E0 N0 T0 V0 Q0

Looks pretty full.

Don't confuse the seat map with seat sales. Not everyone has a seat preallocated at the time of booking.

Never book a ticket expecting (or even hoping) you'll get an ODU. They are rare beasts at the best of times. Furthermore sometimes the person who gets a J ODU is a person in Y not Y+. (It's happened to me once before)

Why not?

Several people on here and other forums have mentioned being able to get ODU's on VA especially if they were among the first to check in and seats were available.

No such luck for me when I flew them - we had to pay $500 ea (for the difference in fare between Y+ and J)...

Where are these examples of people getting ODU's on VA (Im curious)?

Why not? If you're willing to pay up?

(or are we really talking about trying to snaffle a freebie here?)
I'd heard that the going rate on this route was $150 for an ODU from Y+ to J if there were seats available. But alas, I did confuse the seat map with availabilty haha and mistakenly thought the flight was near empty in J

No matter as it's only an 8.5 hour flight and I think Y+ will be adequate. I may pay the extra $500 for J on the way back though just to sample business :D

BTW - HaydenSydney, thanks a lot for your excellent trip reports mate! Loved all the pics and they really helped, perfectly written imo. Cheers.

Thanks guys!

Alright well the availablility seems to be very diferent today :D

Promo Business class fares are available on V Australia, and expertflyer is showing:
J9 C9 D9 I7 W0 S0 R0 O0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 G0 E0 N0 T0 V0 Q0

So now, with so many seats available, how early should I aim to get to the airport to give myself a decent chance of an ODU? Also Im not sure how far in advance check-in opens, if anyone knows that could you please let me know?

Thanks again guys!

Turn up 3-3.5hrs before to have the best chance. I arrived for my VA flight 3.5hrs before and took 1hr to get through the queue and all upgrades had been taken for Y+.

Awesome mate I'll do that :)

It looks like check-in opens 3 hrs prior to departure but I'll be in the line 3.5hrs prior for sure, cheers
To make sure your check-in goes off without a hitch, we’ll be ready and waiting to check you in 3 hours before your flight's scheduled departure

So what was the outcome of the trip/possible upgrade?
