Expert flyer blocked seats - really blocked?

Not sure if this proves anything - but adds to the discussion.

Booked a flight today for tomorrow morning. As soon as the booking came through I went to OLCI and had been allocated 4F (good!). 4D and 4E not available for selection. Just checked and that is still the case (reserved for last minute WP bookings?). Both seats are shown as blocked (not occupied) on Expert Flyer. All other seats not available for OLCI are occupied. Some seats blocked on EF are available for me for selection - if I was a masochis_ I could select 4B!!

Will see how it works out tomorrow morning!

You should also check out the availability on the flight to go with that. As you can select 4B I might guess it is fairly full as they aren't keep empty middle seats.

... [-]I would suggest 4B is actually being shadowed by Aus ATCthemselves.

It's a common characteristic of one's shadow where it exits that you can select it on Qantas.com.[/-]

Today's return flight looks good for me. Lot's of blocked seats for my PS colleague - nothing further forward than about row 13 is showing. For me pretty much all seats available. Expertflyer showing two block seats next to me. Looks to be an empty flight WLG-SYD today - not good for QF profitability though :(

I took Aus ATC to be 4F.

maybe a three seat shadow ... :p maybe not ... maybe they have notional seat access to 4b but not 4D/E.

My guess, acknowledging I'm poor at this stuff, is the Aus ATC outranks 4AC but not 4D who may have a shadow.

There was someone in 4F - also a WP (not sure if P1 or above). I can't believe it was a late choice given this was the last flight out of dodge today...

It's time to gather the AFFers and head off on a QF domestic flight together. We should all book at the same time and see what seats we can get.....and then seat if any are blocked. :p

Follow up to my earlier post. I was in 4F. 4D was occupied. Flight was lightly loaded. I'm guessing the block/shadow was for them.

For info it was QF605 BNE-MEL - any takers on this forum for the owner 4D today!!

(I was pondering asking the occupant of 4D when he chose his seat - but decided it might be a bit intrusive/rude)

bringing back this thread if anyone interested in the following bit of info to add to the mix
I am on QF12 12th April LAX to SYD
I am in Premium economy 24b
On the Qantas web site I can select 24a.
On EF 24a is blocked. Fascinating

EF usually will show a seat as blocked if it's an exit row, which row 24 is.

Ok, thanks. Adds to the info. I am rather new to all this

Just found it interesting that I could select in at Q web site, so it doesn't quite fit with the theory that EF uses my QFF details to get seat selection from Qantas?

Thanks again

They are premium seating allocations. They don't show on E/F even with your FF number in the system. This has been common for me for many years as a WP, you can select them at Qantas.com but shows blocked on E/F (as distinct from occupied).

Thanks ;) As said it's very much a learning experience for me. Hours and hours can be wasted on EF....never mind AFF ;)

Yes indeed. I've spent hours scouring for fares and have indeed snagged some good J fares over the years. The seat alerts have also been very handy.

Welcome to the club :)

umm putting in my qff number induces an error when trying to generate a Y seat map..... and also all the front row y+ are blocked.

Recent flights SYD/HNL/SYD had many blocked seats on EF, yet once on board there were quite a few spares, one guy got into 2nd row of exit seats on 767 best Y seats on the aircraft (tray had 3 positions), grabbed these on return.

Also used EF for seat alert DFW/BNE weeks later it found us 2.

Looking for a bit of help as to whether EF would help me in these circumstances.

The partner and I have QF Classic Award seats in J booked returning to Oz from Dubai to Sydney on 11 August. The only routing we could be allocated was Emirates to Perth then Perth to Sydney on QF domestic J. Obviously our preference would be EK or QF direct to Sydney (not fussed whether 77W or A380).

Is there a notification available in EF which would let me know if further Classic Awards routing becoming available or would I manually need to check the QF website every couple of days?

Yes, Expert Flyer alerts can be set to find Award Seats on QF. Can set up an alert for U availability on the flights you want. An email is sent to you if and when EF finds it.
