Hi All,

Well I was given one of these, and its starting to look to me like they are not worth as much as Qantas would claim when they give them to you.
It looks like they are in effect a gate upgrade, much like an op up.

With all other upgrades now clearing days before, is Qantas pulling one here. Do they work??

Any experience.

Thanks,

Brian.

Yes, they work ok, depending on the staff. They are exactly like op-ups only better since you know it might happen and it is more certain. I've used 2 of these, 1 domestic and 1 international.

It took 2 attempts to get to use the domestic upgrade and I'm pretty sure on the first attempt I was bumped out for a staff upgrade. (This is not a judgement, just a statement of my conclusion based on my observation of proceedings.) The big issue in the first attempt was I was boarding at the front of the queue, got the beep and then had to wait for everyone else to board as the upgrade is confirmed once the flight is closed (or something like that) 10-15 minutes before. After waiting I get told sorry, which meant boarding last and then struggling to find overhead space.

I gave the international one to my mum. She got the upgrade and so it was success on the first attempt. Despite my advice that the airport staff wouldn't know about the upgrade, mum asked a number of airport and lounge staff about it and, of course, they had no idea.

May I ask please what circumstances gave rise to their granting in the first place? Did you complain about something and they were offered as an apology? It's just that I've never heard of them before.

Yes, basically service recovery. It didn't start as a compliant, as I had a pretty confusing situation to do with medical equipment use and I was trying to clarify if I did something wrong. When someone called about it I stressed the seriousness of the situation for me. They looked into it, apparently it was a mistake on their side and the upgrade was offered. It was a fairly serious situation in terms of what I expected to achieve from flying business with a medical device. So I wouldn't expect these things to be handed out willy nilly, so to speak, for any old complaint.

I got mine for yet another priority boarding failure. I haven't used it yet.

Hell! I gotta whinge more. I got a $200 voucher over PB. But that was around the stage that I was sending "feedback" on PB weekly.

$100 voucher for the first complaint and the space available upgrade for the second! I have found it easier to avoid QF and fly DJ domestically now. (Not unlike yourself I suspect!)
