I am wondering if anyone has ever experienced the ability to change their flight, which was previously upgraded to J using points (rather than an on departure upgrade), and been able to retain the upgrade?

I have had a couple of occasions where due to unforeseen & unfortunate circumstances, I have had to change a flight at the last minute, and by doing so lost all the points for the J upgrade. So much for being organised

Would contacting the platinum desk be of any help . . . yes, will suck it and see next time, but interested to know of anyones experience.

Thanks . . . . .

Yes, I've done it (without even asking!).

so was it a simple change of flight, with one that had upgrade availability? straightforward changeover or ???

The changes I have wanted to make have always been such last minute, that I have not even been able to change the flight, have had to cancel and start from scratch.

Yes. I moved from a Monday to a Wednesday MEL-SYD flight and the agent said something like "I've been able to retain your upgrade".

I have done so on the day of departure when arriving on QF93 (LAX-MEL), and simply saying that I wanted some more time in MEL before flying onwards to BNE (had already left an 8hr window between the flights)... No problems being pushed back by an hour on a 'Sale' ticket :D

Basically U class needs to be available on your target flight ... if so then it's generally quite simple ...

and you will most likely have to pay a change or agent fee ... sometimes the agent will insist they have to cancel the upgrade (and hello 5000 point cancellation penalty) to move it, but hold your ground, and as serfty says if there is U availability they can do it.
