Hi all. Apologies in advance if this has been asked before, but how common or reliable is it that you will be upgraded if you have a HH Gold?

I have got mine through Velocity (Gold member), and I have booked/looking to book some hotels overseas soon.

Does it make a difference if you use a discount online provider (e.g. Expedia, Booking.com etc)?

My goal is to book a standard room and try and get an upgrade to the executive floor.

If you book via a third party booking site, HH status may not be recognised, nor might stay/nites credit toward status renewal. (reports suggest sometimes they do, sometimes they don't)

Best to find the cheapest rate (Expedia etc) then try the Hilton best rate guarantee to book with them directly to ensure you do get any gold rewards that may be offered.

Like any upgrade, book the minimum room you'd be happy with and anything extra is, well...an upgrade! Plenty of golds have reported exec room upgrades, but it certainly doesn't always happen..

As an HH Gold, my upgrade success is directly related to the amount I am paying. In Australia if I'm on a sub $200 rate, I basically don't get an upgrade. If I'm on a $250+ rate (but Exec rooms are say $330) and I stay more than one night, I am fairly likely to get an upgrade.

Make sure you select free breakfast in your profile, and then even if you don't get lounge access you get free continental breakfast in the restaurant anyway.
