Let me start by saying that I'm happy for better ideas. My BA Gold (OW Emerald) status is about to expire and most likely I will never get to OW Emerald again. Hence why I would like to spend as much time as possible in the QF First lounge in Sydney with my family prior to our flight. We're off to NZ on my birthday so I figured it would be adequate to spend the day in the lounge.

So far so good but we're away for 10 days so can't just travel with carry on bags. We'd need at least one suitcase for the 3 of us in addition to our carry ons (3x 7kg). Would it be possible to store a suitcase at the international terminal (I've seen the facitilies and think it's about $25 per bag or so), check-in online and proceed through immigration to the F lounge to spend a few hours there. Then 3h prior to the flight I would leave and need to go back to retrieve the locked bag and check it in for our flight.

I have a feeling this won't be possible due to me having "left the country" and then coming back. So is there any other way around this? QF doesn't allow check-in the night before or dropping bags more than -3h before the flight, correct? In true FF spirit there must be a way...

No way will you win friends trying to go back airside to checkin, in fact the attention you get will likely involve gloves and a private room. QF will let you checkin earlier than three hours they have been trialling an "early acceptance of baggage" program that let's you checkin bags anytime on the day.

That sounds interesting. Do you have any more details on this trial or know whether this is now the norm already? I was able to check-in maybe -3h.15 on occasion but I'm looking to check-in more like 7h prior to the flight and don't want to be stranded at the check-in desk for 4h (well I could probably send my family into the lounge already and then celebrate my birthday in front of the F check-in desk...).

Yair, without that D boarding pass, which you would not be qualified for anyway, and your passport having been scanned as exited, coming back out, might or might not kick a stinker, going to collect bag, but as you try to proceed to immi a 2nd time, that will be the problem. Same name, same day of departure.
Australian passports are not stamped anymore on entry or departure from Australia, so its all scanning, not to mention the collection of the outgoing pax card.
Scares me even thinking about those guys and girls in their dark blue police like uniforms, and I don't even do duty free of any sort. :-|:-|:-|:(:(:(:(
Not to mention having to go through int security screening at Sydney Airport, more than once! I mean the LAG tests by the airport outsourced guards.

The other option is to connect from another Port.

You could fly to MEL and head to NZ from there with an all day connection if desired. The MEL lounge is pretty good as well.

Sorry to make this post worster...
After seeing MEL arr for those with orange stickers, ie the Aussies queue, not using Smartgate, ouch.
The snake was very very long.
Not worth it I repeat.
