Exit Row seating with your kids sitting behind - is this allowed?

Thanks for the responses. I have taken a closer look at the SQ website and it is classified as a 'preferred seat', as opposed to a 'emergency exit preferred seat', so we should be fine Preferred Seats

I see your point. I just thought it's a bit of a stretch. If airlines consider that in case of emergency parents will try and go save their kids (exit row or not) this should preclude family members from being seated in various rows to make sure no stampede is created during evacuation. But I admit I do not know for sure...

Good point about stampeding. I also don't know the answer. Just guessing they may focus on maintaining order around the exit row.

absolutely. and it is not safe to separate young children from a parent (not necessarily both) for this very reason. if you don't get your seats pre-allocated, and if check in refuses to help, then the crew once on board will almost certainly move pax to seat a child with at least one if their parents.

Last year my wife and I had exit row with our kids (12 & 10) behind us on QF. At check in we were given the boarding passes, no questions asked. At the gate, the attendent pulled us up and we had to wait quite a while for them to shuffle things around and reseat us. They were very firm that we, as parents, could not sit in exit row with our kids on the plane for the reasons stated above. No problem sitting in a different row from the kids, it just could not be an exit row.
