Here’s a copy of the incoming passenger card to check. How much will you have? If over 2250 ml you will need to declare it but shouldn’t be a problem. Is there a limit to how much alcohol you can bring into Australia if you've paid duty in another country or does it all count in your allowance? If I have a GST receipt from NZ then it should be OK shouldn't it
Thanks - I will have over that but it's very unclear whether you'll have to pay tax againHere’s a copy of the incoming passenger card to check. How much will you have? If over 2250 ml you will need to declare it but shouldn’t be a problem.

If you have above that then GST/Excise may be payable on the lot.
3 litres of ginNote the excise might not be that much, depending on the type of liquor.

As an avid consumer of such products, I understand your enthusiasm. But you should think about the customs process. It is, as far as I know, about excise and importation. Whatever you have paid to a foreign entity (and NZ is truly that) is of no concern to Australia.
Spirits!? !
Oky Dokey - it would be "that much". Excise is currently charged at $83.84 per lite of alcohol plus GST. It will be more after August.
In that case and assuming three 1 litre bottles of Gin with 40% alcohol were purchased for NZD80 total with a NZD to AUD exchange rate of 0.93, then excise and GST payable would be calculated as follows:
% alcohol (by volume) x Volume x Rate + GST on excise + GST on Purchase (converted to AUD).
0.40 x 3 x $83.84 + 0.1 x (0.40 x 3 x $83.84) + 0.1 x ($80.00 x 0.93)
or
AU$118.11
Excise rates for alcohol
Of course, if you reduce that to 2.25 litres (3 x 750ml) then nothing is payable.
In my 100+trips to NZ I was always surprised at the relatively low price of Gin. Back in the days of "Duty Free Stores" + 20% member preorder discount, I could regularly get reasonable Gin for under NZ$20 per bottle.Ok you’ve convinced me
... but then again, back in the day, I was always going back next month.I always stuck within the limits.
